We round out our May spotlights with your 2022-23 Sports Director, Cameron Kurland:

Wow. What a run it’s been here at KCSB. Growing up, I always had a passion and love for all things sports, but never would I have expected to see a dream come reality. Just a few weeks away from graduation, I’m just so thankful for each and every person who has truly made each step of the way special. I still remember my first meeting, sports spot, and live broadcast like it happened yesterday. I could go on for hours about all the laughs, debates, and great times I’ve had with such a special group of people. From magical moments at the Thunderdome, to traveling across the country to cover teams we see everyday. I’m so grateful for the opportunity that this station has provided me to be myself, and I’ll always look back on this experience so fondly.

Hi everyone! My name’s Wendy I’m a 4th year FAMST major at UCSB hoping to go into sports producing in the future. I joined KCSB winter this year and to say it’s been a blast is an understatement. I have made some amazing friends and been able to develop my professional skills with a few broadcasts and researching teams as well as the Gaucho Sports Spot. My favorite memory has to be broadcasting with Quinton and Crystal since we were able to have so much fun on air together. I’m looking forward to seeing what else happens in the future with my journey in media and with KCSB.

Happy Friday everyone! Our next reporter spotlight: Carson Mercier:

What’s up everyone my name is Carson Mercier I am a first year Communications major at SBCC. This was my second year (ish) working with KCSB and it produced some of my favorite all time memories. It’s hard to say anything tops following the Mens and Womens Basketball teams to Henderson, Nevada and the Mens team to Denver for the first round of the NCAA March Madness tournament but if I had to choose my favorite moment from the year it would be when the Womens team played UCLA in the TDome. The first half was electric and an atmosphere I’ll never forget.

Sup my names Vince I’m a 3rd pre-comm major and I’ve been in KCSB Sports for about 9 months and it’s provided me with some of the funnest moments of my life. I’ve made lifelong friends, traveled the nation, and worked on becoming a better commentator and leader all while watching my favorite sports. It’s been a great rookie season and as I look to return next year I hope however reads this joins us as we look to keep on making timeless memories covering the sports we love here at UCSB.

Hi everyone! My name is Makayla Wilson and I am a first year pre-communications major. I love all things sports and I can’t imagine a life without it as I aspire to be a sideline sportscaster for Friday night football games! KCSB has allowed me to grow and enjoy the sports industry even more. My favorite sport to broadcast has to definitely be the women’s volleyball team! They are a force to be reckoned with and I can’t wait till next season! Hopefully we can get some interviews next year as well👀🤭
