There is a particular ethos attached to life in a beach town. For many, it remains a lifelong dream—a glorious idea of sand, shimmering waters, and slow afternoons. For others, especially in Florida, that dream has become a reality. Hundreds of people continue to arrive here each day in search of something warmer, brighter, or simply different.⁠
⁠
I arrived in 1993, leaving Boston for a newly created marketing position in the idyllic town of Seaside, Florida. Seaside is the birthplace of New Urbanism, founded by visionary developer Robert Davis more than forty years ago. At the time, Seaside still felt like a secret, even as the world was beginning to discover it. Then came The Truman Show. In 1995, director Peter Weir and stars Jim Carrey and Laura Linney helped put our little town on the map forever. Local merchant owners became extras, storefronts became backdrops, and Hollywood, incredibly, set up camp in the middle of our Florida beach town. It was surreal, thrilling, and impossible to fully comprehend in the moment. Destiny had arrived, but with a film crew in tow.⁠

The smell of a freshly brewed honey cinnamon latte mingles with the soft hum of music and the sight of shiny rows of electric bicycles lining the sales floor and walls of Eventure Florida’s new showroom and Waterborne Coffee shop in Panama City Beach. From stand-up paddleboards to surfboards, bicycles, skateboards, e-foils, and more, Pedego 30A founder Jason Medina and his business partner, Matt Cassidy, rebranded Medina’s Pedego shop in WaterColor as Eventure Florida about a year ago. The expansion from being a dedicated e-bike shop to offering a range of outdoor adventure gear and e-bike tours in the Scenic Highway 30-A area was the first step toward becoming Northwest Florida’s adventure experts. The new PCB location, about eighteen miles east, offers even more opportunities.⁠

“The shop is brand new, and we’re really excited to be out here,” Medina shares. “I’ve been kind of looking at this spot for a long time, or at least Panama City Beach, because there really isn’t anybody else doing bikes or anything as we do, so we’re excited to be out here.”⁠
