A New Year. A New You.
Reach for the Stars
The chance to grow, evolve, and reach new heights is always available to us. Still, the new year has a way of sharpening that hope. It becomes a marker—a moment when we pause, reflect, and imagine something better, or at least something new. Life can be repetitive, and the seasons we move through are rarely equal in ease or joy. What we often long for at the edge of a new year is the arrival of a dream that has lingered just out of reach: a child, a partner, a new career, a healed relationship, a fresh venture, or finally taking the trip we’ve been promising ourselves.
I’ve been reaching for the stars for as long as I can remember, even before I understood why. That desire—to become a better version of myself—has never faded. Personal growth matters because it shapes how we show up in the world. When we invest in ourselves, we’re better equipped to leave a meaningful mark within our own circles and beyond them.
As I write this, I’m recovering from a twelve-hour breast cancer surgery in New Orleans. I was surrounded by an exceptional medical team whose skill, care, and attention made me feel completely safe. Healing takes effort, intention, and trust—much like any worthwhile pursuit. I’m deeply grateful for the people and place that guided me through this experience and for how quickly everything came together when I needed it most.
My prognosis is excellent, and my optimism is strengthened daily by the prayers, encouragement, and love of friends and family, my faith, outstanding medical care, and especially my husband, who has been my constant champion—serving not just as my cheerleader, but also my coach, caregiver, and steady support throughout this journey.
My hope for all of you in the coming year is simple and sincere: good health. As my grandmother used to say, “Health is wealth.” She was right.
Happy New Year. May it be your best one yet.
To life and health,
—Lisa Marie Burwell
