E-SCOOTER SAFETY: ACTION NEEDED

Parents, please talk to your children about e-scooter safety. Grandparents, please talk to your grandchildren about it. This is an area where the laws at present do not address many of the unsafe behaviors we are seeing.

Kids are blowing through intersections without looking.

They have been observed riding double or even triple on them.

Helmets are rarely being worn.

Mayors are contacting our office concerned about the safety of the children in their towns with the unsafe behavior they are seeing in their communities. Their concern is valid and real, but we cannot enforce this one into safety.

So, please, before we have a tragedy, teach your kids to wear a helmet, slow down, stop and check both ways before crossing, yield to pedestrians, and just be careful. If they won’t, please take the e-scooter away for their own good.
