on the Evergreen Middle School Deputy involved Shooting. This is the initial SIIR release pertaining to an officer-involved shooting which occurred on September 8th, 2026. The information is preliminary and has been gathered by detectives using sources of information currently available, including body-worn camera footage from the involved deputies and physical evidence obtained from the scene.



On September 8th, 2026 at approximately 11:30 A.M., members of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office responded to 14221 E. 16th Ave Spokane Valley, WA (Evergreen Middle School) for a report of a suspicious person armed with a firearm.



A Spokane Valley School Resource Deputy arrived within minutes of the initial call and encountered the individual, who aggressively charged him with what appeared to be a firearm. The deputy fired his weapon at the individual, who was later pronounced deceased at the scene.



SIIR team investigators recovered what was later determined to be a realistic looking replica firearm near the deceased individual.



The identity of the deceased has been released by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office.



The investigation is in its preliminary stages. More information will be released as appropriate.

The SIIR Team is comprised of multiple agencies in Eastern Washington, including the Spokane Police Department, Washington State Patrol, Spokane Valley Police Department, and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.



As the agency involved, The Spokane County Sherriff’s Office/Spokane Valley Police personnel will not be involved in this investigation in compliance with WAC 139-12.



This investigation is being conducted by the Spokane Independent Investigative Response Team (SIIR). The Spokane Police Department is the lead investigating agency with assistance from Washington State Patrol.
All future communications regarding this incident will be sent via the SIIR Team.
The agency involved may release the name of the Deputy involved as appropriate.
Once the SIIR Team investigation is complete, the case will be forwarded to the Spokane County Prosecutors Office for review.
