Our co-owners, Lindsey Myers and Jessica Renslow met while working at a post-production studio in Burbank, California in 2007. After a year of collaborating on many projects together, they decided to combine their production and post-production skill sets and formed Almost Fairytales. We are an independent production/ post-production company based in Studio City, California and Gary, Indiana (Chic

agoland Region). A key factor for the Almost Fairytales crew has been maintaining our motto, "We Make Projects into Productions!" The 2023 GIBFF Reel Rundown Fellowship will feature six online workshops highlighting Black women and animators who are breaking barriers in the field. Selected participants will

Our co-owner Jessica Renslow received a 2020 Individual Advancement Grant from the . A Last year when she submitted her pitch the original grant had her attending a conference. With Covid-19 adjustments she was able to do a DIY retreat and an online course. Thank you to IAC for allowing for these adjustments. She has created her pitch package and has started the book submissions process for her middle grade novel.

Great turnout at yesterday’s National Novel Writing Month Workshop. We had 15 participants and 6 helpers. The kids came from Gary, Hobart, East Chicago, Hebron, Chesterton, Portage and La Porte. Thanks to The Douglas Center for being our host site, Reflective Teaching for donating materials and the IAC for sponsoring the workshop. Congratulations Steven Tamayo! had the pleasure of interviewing him for our documentary last summer. Teaching culture through play is a key focus of Steven Tamayo’s life’s work. While filming we explored this concept. Tamayo is a artist and educator living outside Omaha. His work has been shown internationally and he taught at during the movement. He currently has an exhibit at the featuring from a variety of Native American cultures. This exhibit has been displayed for five years and it just got recontracted for another 15.

Three of the original students decided to continue on and have a club devoted to the craft of digital storytelling. They've been harnessing their narrative ever since.
