It was a crystal-clear afternoon when this aerial image of the tip of Bird Shoal was taken from Radio Island in Beaufort, NC. Bird Shoal, along with Carrot Island, Town Marsh, Horse Island and salt marshes are included in the Rachel Carson Reserve situated across from the town of Beaufort, NC along beautiful Taylor's Creek.

ON THIS EARTH DAY...we share the film we made while living on the NC coast, Tidal Alert, which addresses water quality issues faced by NC fisheries. (link below) Ironically, we witnessed the very same water quality issues after relocating to WNC with the devastation suffered first with Helene, last September and the wild fires this spring that required the use of fire retardants. Here I stand on a gorgeous rock platform in Pearson's Falls and Glen in Saluda, NC. We are filming on the ground and in the air(drone), capturing restoration efforts after Helene impacted the area last September. Some of the challenges faced with capturing drone footage have been the freezing winter temperatures, surface winds over moving water and the low tree canopy. As a frequent visitor at Pearson's Falls and Glen prior to Helene, I'm in awe of new and impressive cascading landscapes of C**t Creek that are certain to delight visitors when the park reopens. Here today, gone tomorrow...

Talk about fleeting moments!...while filming some of the restoration efforts of the Pacolet River near Pearson's Falls on Saturday afternoon, we traveled upstream of the excavators/earthmovers to find this very spot that we previously found/photographed in 2021. We were absolutely astounded to find beautiful new rock cascades and water features that formed after Helene visited our area. We stayed to immerse ourselves in the beauty of the moment and photographed as long as possible, then left before dark. Returning early this morning, we found it completely demolished! Restoration does not always mean conservation or preservation. We are thankful we acted on our intuition and stopped to cherish the moment because it will never look this way again.
