We are grateful and honored to be filming/documenting the historic restoration project at Pearson's Falls & Glen, which was significantly damaged by Hurricane Helene. Since 1931 the Tryon Garden Club has been devoted stewards of this 90-foot waterfall and botanical sanctuary (glen). Generations have continued to enjoy and cherish this treasured site located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

When filmmaking is your gift, why not share it with others? Terry and I are mentoring advanced language arts students at Polk County Middle School in the art of filmmaking. Their goal is to submit their films to TRIFF 2026 and our goal is to support them in their journey. More than 12 months after Hurricane Helene, a small, mini excavator has finally reached the upper falls to begin restoration work in that area of Pearson's Falls and Glen. A mountain of debris at the base of the waterfall was caused by a massive landslide and boulders as large as boxcars, hurled over the falls and throughout the glen resulting in massive flood damage to the primary feature of the natural attraction in Polk County, NC.

It was a crystal-clear afternoon when this aerial image of the tip of Bird Shoal was taken from Radio Island in Beaufort, NC. Bird Shoal, along with Carrot Island, Town Marsh, Horse Island and salt marshes are included in the Rachel Carson Reserve situated across from the town of Beaufort, NC along beautiful Taylor's Creek.

ON THIS EARTH DAY...we share the film we made while living on the NC coast, Tidal Alert, which addresses water quality issues faced by NC fisheries. (link below) Ironically, we witnessed the very same water quality issues after relocating to WNC with the devastation suffered first with Helene, last September and the wild fires this spring that required the use of fire retardants. "Water is the most critical resource issue of our lifetime and our children's lifetime. The health of our waters is the principal measure of how we live on the land." - Luna Leopold
