A SALUTE TO OUR VETERANS...That's the theme of our front page this week as we highlight Tuesday's service and Gold Star Memorial dedication...then, from V-township, some in the township want the building department back after some allegations are made, but city officials say some of it is just hot air...from the city, Flock cameras are tabled, boards and commissions appointments are put on hold until 2026, and audience members give kudos to the council president...then back to the township, where the board finds out its roads are in pretty good shape. ELECTION RESULTS...Tuesday's election results are in, although it will likely take a couple of weeks to get them certified, and there is at least one contest in the V-township where provisional ballots may make a difference...and now with the elections behind us, we catch up with some of the good news from the Vermilion Parks and Recreation Board concerning Showse and Rotary Parks...and there is some news from the Vermilion Police Department concerning the chief's exam and the administrative assistant position. ELECTION FINALE...Yes, we've had a lot of copy in the paper the past two weeks, and we've got just one more as we finish covering the local issues that will be on the November ballot - V-township fire and the city charter amendment. Then, we catch up with Vermilion City Council Committees as council members discuss how invasive the proposed Flock cameras would be. Also, we have the very long (but very relevant) presentation about the proposed wastewater treatment plants improvements. Vote for your community news. Subscribe today! ELECTION EXTRAVAGANZA...Our VPJ election coverage continues - this paper is pretty much solid election coverage for November. We feature an interview with Vermilion Supt. Wes Weaver about the upcoming bond issue, and the profiles for Vermilion Municipal Court Judge, Brownhelm Township Trustee, Vermilion Board of Education, and Vermilion City Council Ward 4. And free speech isn't dead yet...you asked for letters - and we've got them. (Next week we finish up with the final two issues - Vermilion Township Fire Levy and the proposed charter amendment in the City of Vermilion.) And speaking of the charter amendment, Mayor Jim tells us how he REALLY feels about it in his column. Don't be left out in the cold when it concerns your community news. Subscribe today! THE SUN SETS ON ANOTHER WEEK OF NEWS... We've been holding back on you, as there have been no meetings since the beginning of last week, so we held a little back to get you the full 411, including two rezonings that came before council, the first of guaranteed clashes about Vermilion and its allure to others who want to live and work here...then, the noise ordinance comes back to council (this one was decided years ago, but...), then, to Parks Board, where the Showse project is now coming together, including some funding from the board...and the VPD arranges a presentation to council about placing Flock cameras (10) around the city...It's going to be a woolly weekend. FALLING INTO THE NEWS...There's a lot of news - drama, laughter, info, you name it. This week's VPJ features the ongoing saga at V-Township, where the chair reads a letter "to everyone" in response to last meeting's event spectacle where Zoning Inspector Joe Baxter was thrown out....then, we switch to city council, where a councilman and the mayor spar over size (of the police station)...then, in his sometimes controversial but always read column, the mayor talks about the good old days in V-town, the building department, and the VOL lateral project, and it's homecoming season, and new advisor Christine Reynolds gives us the full slate of activities for the week. Cooler weather is coming. Don't be left out in the cold without your community news. Subscribe today! Subscribe today!
