Rhode Island has plenty of characters. Kirk Benttinen thinks more of them should be movie characters. 🎥

The award-winning filmmaker returned home with an idea: make cinematic documentaries about Rhode Islanders, for Rhode Islanders — and give people a reason to experience those stories together in a theater.

Through RI Docs, that means films about everyone from a pizza-obsessed vice principal to one of the state’s last neon artists and a 100-year-old Federal Hill street photographer.

It’s local storytelling with a Hollywood-sized spotlight — minus the need to leave the Ocean State.

🍑 Today’s Rhode Island forecast: sunny with a very good chance of peaches.

This week on Hey Rhody Weekly, we’re looking at three orchards to know during peach season: Steere Orchard in Greenville, Barden Family Orchard in North Scituate, and Sunset Orchard in North Scituate.

The fine print? Peaches run on farm time. Availability can change fast depending on weather, ripeness, and how many eager pickers got there before you.

Our advice: check before you go, head out early, and stay flexible. A bag of local peaches still counts as a win.

Bowen’s Wharf has a fresh new stop for anyone in Newport with a sweet tooth, a soft spot for summer drinks, or a serious need to cool down between harbor strolls.

Boba on Bowen’s is an outdoor cafe from Kristen Szklarz and Leanne McAndless, longtime friends who wanted to create something fun, colorful, and family-oriented. The menu includes frozen boba, unique lemonades, milk and fruit teas, Italian ice, and paninis, with seasonal favorites like frozen mango boba, strawberry peach lemonade, and traditional brown sugar milk tea.
