Grave Digger #1 Where the Legend Began
Before the fame, before the championships… there was the original Grave Digger #1 — the truck that started a monster legacy.
Built in 1982 by Dennis Anderson, Grave Digger #1 wasn’t a polished show machine. It was a rough, homemade build created from old parts, including a Ford pickup truck body mounted on a mud bogging chassis.
In the early days, Grave Digger #1 competed in local events, often going up against much more expensive trucks — but it quickly gained attention for its aggressive driving style and underdog spirit.
Unlike today’s high-tech monster trucks, this original version didn’t even start with massive tires. It evolved over time as Dennis upgraded it piece by piece, pushing the limits of what a truck could do.
The name “Grave Digger” came from Dennis’s famous words:
“I’ll take this old junk and dig you a grave with it!” — and he proved it on the track.
This first version laid the foundation for what would later become one of the biggest names in Monster Jam history.
Today, Grave Digger is a global icon — but it all started with this raw, fearless machine.
Respect the origin. This is the birth of a legend.
