My heart has been heavy for the last week, but I could not put this post off any longer...
Friday Morning on June 26th,
GooseBoi took his skills and love for music, to the heavenly stage.
GooseBoi aka Dustin McDaniel was known for many things...
His passionate love for music, his deep devotion to Detroit and the music that was born here, his innate ability to build anything, the constant smile spread across his face...
But what he will be remembered most for, was his unending selfless love for his friends, and his willingness to drop everything to help a friend.
GooseBoi began his career in the heyday of the 90's rave scene in Detroit. His deep library of vinyl was crafted over many years, sharing his love of music with others at the Wax Museum. After Hurricane Katrina, his selfless caring instinct took him on a decade long adventure down South. During this time, he brought the sounds that raised him in Detroit with him, leaving him as one of the founding fathers of the electronic music scene in Mississippi, Alabama and New Orleans, ultimately seeing him voted the Gulf Coast DJ of the year in 2011 and 2012. (The concert poster included is from the final show from his Gulf Coast Tour in 2013)
Upon his return to Michigan, he continued playing local events in Metro Detroit, touring the country to help build other communities, while falling in love with a simpler life, at his farm surrounded by family and his beloved animals.
Over the last week, the tremendous influence that GooseBoi had on my life and career, has come into glaring focus.
Dustin was my first resident DJ, he taught me how to DJ, he was the first DJ I ever managed, the first DJ I ever went on tour with, and most importantly, an amazing friend of 25 years. My life and career would most assuredly not be where it is today, without his influence on my life and love of electronic music. I truly will miss him with all of my being. However, I draw closure from the fact that he will be the inspiration for success, for everyone that he ever touched.
So with the heaviest of hearts, we must say goodbye.
But don't worry, his turn tables are in good hands. We will keep them spinnin' for him while he is gone. And all the people he infected with his love and passion, will always carry his memory forward.
Rest In Peace GooseBoi
We all expect a hell of a show upon our arrival in heaven
