A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect for tonight into Monday morning, and includes the entire forecast area. Uninsulated pipes may freeze or burst. Do not use grills or heat sources which emit carbon monoxide inside.

12/13/2025

Extreme cold ahead! ❄️A frigid cold front will move into our area beginning Sunday through Tuesday. Gusty winds are also forecast for Sunday evening. As always, be prepared for possible power outages! Single-digit wind chills certainly aren’t something we’re accustomed to here in Southeast Georgia, so bundle up and please take extra precautions.

⚠️ Remember that your heating system will be working harder than usual. Set your thermostat to 68° or below to avoid extreme energy use.
⚠️ Prevent frozen pipes by leaving faucets on a slow drip and opening cabinet doors to expose plumbing. Insulate outdoor pipes and faucets.
⚠️ Use space heaters and alternate heat sources with care.
⚠️ Make a plan for anyone who needs special assistance, including pets.

We will be monitoring over the weekend. Stay warm and safe!

For the third season in a row, the Bears have had an esports team reach at least the Elite Eight in the playoffs. In years past, they had teams make Final Four and championship appearances. Unfortunately, this season didn’t experience that much success, but three teams qualified for the playoffs, and one team made it to the Elite Eight.

Last year, my good friend Jeff Palmer sent me a photograph of a tomb stone that he uncovered in his front yard in Barrett Plantation. I was already aware of an African-American cemetery on Jeff’s property with some grave markers for persons born before the Civil War, a significant find. The marker photographed, however, was much older. I instantly recognized the name barely visible on the stone – John Davies (1761 To 1817).
