Been wanting to revisit this release for a while. It came out a dozen years ago & it probably took me a dozen years to put it together. The inspiration for this compilation predated Silber. There was a compilation from 1991 called Guitarrorists made in response to someone saying there was nothing left to explore with guitars. Decades letter people are still saying that & still being proven wrong. Maybe I should make another version of this compilation. Included with the release is an ebook with thousands of pages of interviews with guitarists from QRD's webzine era. Hope you can listen along with me.

Essentially the day Small Life Form's When Metal Sleeps came out, Scott Lawlor said, ""This is a great album! Do you mind if I do some remixes?"" I was flattered & assumed it was the kind of comment people make & never comes to fruition. A week later he sent me this massive beast re-working nearly the entire album into an even bigger monster than it started as. Slowed down & stretched out from 80 minutes to almost 12 hours. This is ambient music for deserted spaces.

In 2020 I invested my life savings to open a coffee shop & event space in an attempt to shape the town I was living in into a town I wanted to live in. It was hard. It was rewarding. It was unsustainable. Admitting it was hard. A couple weeks before closing a regular asked what I was going to do next & I said I didn't know. He said he could get me a job he thought I'd like in an iron foundry. He was right. The job was perfect for where I was at mentally. Physically grueling. Physically challenging. Actually dangerous enough to make me appreciate being alive. Another friend of mine used to call me every week saying I was a prisoner & I had to get out of there. I told him I would be happy to stop shoveling sand out of tunnels & burning myself if he could find a job that paid me better & he never could. Eventually I did find something that paid better - a desk jockey job not really fitting to who I see myself as, but probably better suited to what I actually am... a 50 year-old father & husband.
When Metal Sleeps documents my two years in the foundry. The anger & resentment I had from a failed dream sculpting the sounds of my daily life into industrial ambient soundscapes. Ominous & frightening & soothing. This is not music for everyone. An argument could be made it isn't even music at all. This is Small Life Form.

Various Artists: Classical Ripoff
Back in 2019 I put together the Symphonic Plunderphonic compilation ( https://silbermedia.bandcamp.com/album/symphonic-plunderphonic ). I wanted to revisit the concept. Maybe it was too soon as this revisitation ended up a mini-comp. But it was still fun to pull together. The concept was simple enough, make a plunderphonic piece using classical symphonic music.
