LPGA’s FM Championship Coming to TPC Boston from August 28 to 31

TPC Boston is excited to host the second edition of the FM Championship, featuring the world’s top female golfers from the LPGA!

This event will showcase one of the strongest fields of the LPGA Tour season, as players compete for a purse of $4.1 million—the largest outside of the major championships.

A.W. Tillinghast is one the best known, and most respected, and occasionally feared, golf course architects of Golf’s Golden Age. Builder of US Open, and PGA, Championship venues like Winged Foot and Bethpage Black in New York and Jersey’s own Baltusrol C.C., Tillinghast made many of America’s top golf courses competed on by almost every one of the biggest names in the Game from Jones to Arnie to Jack and Tiger for more than a hundred years.

As it turns out, The Jersey Shore boasts a couple of Tillie’s personal favorite designs that members, and the, have enjoyed on a daily basis for around a hundred years each.

Located only 5 miles from bustling downtown Providence, the atmosphere is calm, with no traffic, and the vibes are very chill. Golfing Magazine attended the Media Day event at TPC Boston for the FM Championship, the only LPGA tournament in New England. The tournament is next week, August 28-31. All the top players from the LPGA Tour will be competing for the $4.1 million purse. If you can not make it in person, the tournament will be broadcast on The Golf Channel.

The media day event included a panel with LPGA Tour winner & Rockland MA native Megan Khang as well as 6-time major championship winner Pat Bradley.

We had the opportunity to play the course in the afternoon. TPC Boston will be a good test for the LPGA players. The undulating greens and strategic tee shots got the best of me yesterday.

Winnapaug Country Club is located in the coastal town of Westerly, RI. A classic Donald Ross design, it still features the characteristics he built into the course over a century ago. It is a par 72 that plays around 6400 from the back tees. The unique layout and scenery will certainly impress you, but also challenge you with the shape of the holes. Every hole is different and there’s never a time you say “this is a boring layout.”

Tucked about 20 miles south of Boston, Norwood Country Club is a laid-back spot that makes a good first impression. It has the full driving range, a chipping green, and 18 holes that are meant for fun. The layout is challenging, but the flat landscape and open fairways make it a great play for golfers of all skill types. It is family-friendly, and it has one of the most active youth programs in the state.
