I was out on our back patio 5 years ago today in the midst of the pandemic. I reached for my phone to read some posts on social media and saw the news. It felt like a gut punch hearing that Edward Van Halen had died.

Still hard to believe, even after 5 years. But even though Eddie is gone, their music lives on. If you see me driving around town, chances are high I'm listening to Van Halen. And it's likely up loud.

Long live King Edward.

The month of October brings back special memories for me. It was exactly 28 years ago today I had my last morning weathercast on KTKA-TV in Topeka. The very next day, my Mom and brother helped me make the big move from the Capital City to the Air Capital.

Moving day was hot: 92 degrees...and of course the warmest day that month in Wichita.

The very next morning I showed up for work at KSNW. 2 days later, I made my Wichita debut. What a blur that time was.

My advice to others: don't try this kind of turnaround!

You usually see me in front of the camera but on the weekends I'm behind the mic at KNSS Radio . Look at that..no suit, unshaven and wearing a ball cap.

Call it the Summer of 2025 miracle or whatever you want. At 4 a.m. on May 24, the level at Cheney Lake was 1413.58 ft. This morning, the level is 1423.07 ft. That's a nearly 9.5 ft rise since May 24.
