Our latest thoughts for the weekend. Freezing drizzle looks to start Saturday morning in Wichita. Fingers crossed that we get to freezing or slightly above that in the Metro during the afternoon. It will be a close call for that. Weather conditions will go downhill especially late Saturday night into Sunday.

Spent last Friday afternoon out at Cheney Lake shooting drone video. You can't believe how low the water level is until you see it for yourself. Video link in comments.

More numbers to chew on! Between 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday, the water level at Cheney Lake rose 2.75", adding 1,700 acre-feet of water.

That converts to nearly 554 million gallons of additional water.

If the city of Wichita pulls 45 MGD (million gallons/day) from the Lake, its customers will use up this added water in about 12 days.

Note: these figures do NOT account for evaporation.

You might be wondering...how much rainfall occurred in the Cheney Lake Watershed Saturday-Sunday? Here's rainfall data from CoCoRaHS and co-operative observers in Reno, Stafford and Pratt counties.

This will certainly help, but we need at least 2 to 3 additional weather systems just like this one, to bring the lake up to conservation pool. Every little bit helps.
