🌩️ SEVERE WEATHER THREAT — THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3RD 🌪️
Minnesota could be in for another round of strong to severe thunderstorms tomorrow as a warm, unstable air mass sets up across the region. The latest outlook highlights a corridor from western/central Minnesota into southern Minnesota for the greatest concern.
⚠️ MAIN THREATS: Damaging straight-line winds — currently the primary concern
🧊 Large hail — some storms could produce hail capable of damage
🌪️ Tornadoes — an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, especially if stronger storms can develop near boundaries
⛈️ Strong thunderstorms — storms may become organized during the afternoon and evening
The setup features moderate to strong instability and substantial wind shear, which could allow any storms that develop to become organized. The biggest question remains storm initiation and exactly where storms develop.
📍 Areas to watch: Alexandria • St. Cloud • Minneapolis/St. Paul • Mankato • Rochester and surrounding areas, with the threat extending into western Wisconsin.
🚨 Bottom line: Tomorrow is not a guaranteed severe weather for everyone, but there is enough instability and shear to take the setup seriously. If storms can overcome the cap, some could become strong to severe rather quickly.
Stay weather aware, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and keep an eye on the forecast as we get closer to Thursday.

9/2 6AM - Strong to severe storms are possible late Thursday evening into the overnight hours although the severe potential may depend on storm coverage earlier in the day. If severe storms develop, the main hazard will be damaging wind gusts. Stay up to date with the forecast!

🌩️ SEVERE WEATHER SETUP — TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 🌩️
The first day of September is bringing a potentially active severe weather setup across southern Minnesota and surrounding areas. 👀
🔥 WHAT WE'RE WATCHING:
⛈️ Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop, mainly this evening into tonight
💨 Damaging wind gusts appear to be the primary severe threat
🧊 Large hail will also be possible with the stronger storms
🌪️ A low-end tornado threat exists, but tornadoes are not expected to be the main concern
🌧️ Heavy downpours could accompany the storms
The SPC has southern Minnesota and portions of the Upper Midwest within a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms, while the NWS Twin Cities notes that the highest potential for strong to severe storms is across southern Minnesota tonight.
📍 Storm timing: Most areas should remain relatively quiet through much of the day, with storm chances increasing tonight and into the overnight hours.
⚠️ If you're in southern Minnesota, especially near and south of I-90, keep an eye on the sky tonight. Have multiple ways to receive warnings and don't wait until a storm is on top of you to take action.

9/1/26 5AM - A thunderstorm complex will develop over eastern South Dakota late this afternoon and then race east across southern Minnesota and northern Iowa this evening. This complex will move east through area between 11 pm and 6 am tonight. Damaging winds is the primary threat with secondary threats of large hail and heavy rain. Stay Weather Aware!
