The Winona County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a woman in connection with a shooting in Elba. Sixty-four-year-old Ava K**k was taken in custody on Wednesday. She allegedly fired a gun at a woman getting out of her car near an apartment building on South Main Street in Elba on Tuesday night. The shots hit the body of the car and shattered its windshield; the victim suffered cuts to her face, possibly from shrapnel or broken glass. A search warrant conducted at K**k’s residence recovered the firearm and shell casings believed to be involved in the shooting. K**k and the victim are known to each other; however, there are no known previous altercations or negative interactions between them, according to a statement from WCSO.

A video showing a three-year-old boy bound with duct tape, crying and being dragged to closet where a person with a mask and blanket is waiting has led to the arrest of a Winona woman. Twenty-year-old Joseline Puente Gundersen was arrested Tuesday for child torture. According to a Winona Police department spokesperson, a co-worker of Gunderson’s saw the video and alerted law enforcement. The spokesperson said the video had been posted on social media.

The boy and his mother were staying at Gundersen’s residence when the incident occurred. It’s unclear at this time if the mother was involved but the spokesperson did say investigators are looking for at least two other suspects.

A Massachusetts couple are unlikely heroes after rescuing a man who drove his vehicle into the Mississippi River. According to the Winona County Sheriff's Office, Brittany Pashkow and Dustin Colson-Leaning are traveling across the country this summer in their camper. They were stopped at the Dresbach rest area on Monday when a vehicle drove down an embankment and into the water. The driver was having a medical emergency.

Pashkow immediately called 911. As the car was sinking, Colson-Leaning went into the river, extricated the semi-conscious driver and pulled him to the shore. The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The vehicle was completely submerged by the time law enforcement arrived. A WCSO Facebook post praised Pashkow and Colson-Leaning, stating without "their life saving efforts, the end result would have been a lot different."
