This year, over 650 flags will fly to honor these veterans. Volunteer help is appreciated, and following the placement of these flags, the VFW Auxiliary will be serving breakfast at their Post for those helping.
Monday, May 25th: Memorial Day ceremonies at the Winterset Cemetery at 10:30 am. There is NO PARADE this year. The Avenue of Flags, White Crosses, and Grave site flags will be taken down in the afternoon, beginning at 3 pm, with volunteer help.
The main ceremony will take place at the WWI Soldiers Monument in the Winterset Cemetery, where the WHS Marching Band will play patriotic songs. This year, Colonel Christine Root of the Iowa Army National Guard will be the keynote speaker. In case of inclement weather, the program will be canceled.
Thank you in advance for honoring departed veterans who might be family members or friends.
