The game changing EV for Australian families and other assorted clickbait. šŸ˜…

Oh gosh, the T60 was off doing T60 things and Morley Kia came to the rescue with not a 4WD. They were kind enough to give me the keys to this rip snorter of a family EV the Kia EV5 GT-Line.

It’s not like any of the other EVs I see on the market. They’ve kept the interior design language the same as the Tasman and they’ve done appropriately mental external design so you know it’s an EV. It goes like introvert from the work Christmas party, and finally doesnt give me range anxiety.

However, I’m not an EV expert and, well, it shows. I had a lot of fun doing this one, and a nice chat to a truckie who stopped for a break where I was recording, but this video is not performing well… like at all. šŸ˜‚

Guess I’ve learned my lesson. The Elon’s of the world do not like my review.

Back to 4x4’s then. 😁

Kia has given us the keys to their fully EV SUV, the EV5 GT!

I hear what you’re saying.. Ricey, that’s not a 4X4! Yes well incase you’ve been living in the moment and forgotten my past, the LDV is doing its usual thing of late and not being available.

So came in for the rescue with what I believe is the first actually liveable EV for Australia!

With a 430km range as I’ve tested, including absolutely castrating a Subaru-driving ace, hanging out with the Falconbridge Racing team at the Perth Motorplex in Kwinana, some night driving out into the Wheatbelt in WA and using it as a daily for work, it’s really working for me all on one charge.

It’s powerful too although it’s only packing 480nm which isn’t enough to make most dualcab utes I’ve tested blush. The big difference of course being an EV is it’s available all the time so this thing gracefully adds kph to its digital heads up display whilst I try to keep my melon from pushing backwards into the headrest.

Check these photos. No filters. No editing. It’s genuinely a very nice car. And it’s got a mini cooler/heater box, a sick table and that huge moonroof… this is a niiice vehicle.

There’s some drawbacks though. Mostly waiting at chargers for all the Elon’s to get out of the way!

PS.. sorry to the Tesla driver who had to wait for me because I pressed the recline button while I was on the charger and promptly fell asleep listening to Quantic’s Time is the Enemy on repeat. The irony in listening to that song and wasting your time is not lost on me.

And we are done with diagnostics on the T60! The outcome? Wheel bearings, wheel speed sensor, rear differential and tail shaft all to be replaced.

Wheel bearings are a new find by the crew at Motorcorp LDV, Kenwick. Hopefully that fixes the whine.

The wheel speed sensor will be put on order and once that’s fixed we should be good to go for 4x4 again.

But hang on a second… the diff again? Apparently yes. Replaced in July and already an issue. Now originally when this was replaced it didn’t solve any problems, however we’re being told it is the problem and replacing will fix the whiplash.

I’m perplexed but I’m also not a mechanic. This is these guy’s bread and butter so let’s get it done and see if we get a better result this time! šŸ¤™

Fun fact: In just three short months time we’ll have been dealing with the same issue for two years. Across four different LDV dealerships. First reported in February 2023. I wonder if we’ll make it to the 24 month mark. 🧐

Preparations have begun for a mega 10,000km offgrid trip up through the top end of WA and into the NT. It feels good to be gearing up to go outback again. The T60 will have a new lightweight friend tomorrow too. 😁

On the repair front, where dealers are dropping LDV faster than they can get the work done, John Hughes have dropped LDV and declined doing the work they ordered the parts for after Midland City LDV booked us in for June before cancelling the day before as they were dropping LDV too, so we’re off to in Kenwick to start the process again.

No 4X4, no ABS and no Traction Control so the T60 is purely a mall crawler for the time being, however we’re hopeful that are able to replace the vehicle speed sensor and re-apply for the transmission work to get us back to square one again with the T60.

Staying positive about the rust too in the hope that it’s a repair and move on with life. Head the sand? Maybe. Keen to see this through though and look forward to doing the 100,000 km review on the LDV. Or the We’re stranded on the Gibb River Road video. šŸ˜…

We’ve received a few emails on behalf of GWM. What does that mean? Likely nothing, however for the sake of a cliffhanger, they asked me for details of my

The choice between Australia’s top selling Utes is clear!

Toyoda has left the building.

Perhaps that’s a bit harsh.

Not like I know what the heck I’m talking about with design trends. I’m just pretending I know and saying boooo, I couldn’t come up with anything better but Ill sure as heck be a Judge Judy and have my say like I’m a pro!

Let me reframe this in a way I can relate to.

The Ranger? Thats a fullsize jar of Vegemite. Y’know, the good gear that sits in the fridge for 6 months and ends up housing residual butter & crumbs. Flavour increasing with every use!

The Hilux? Y’know those breakfast buffets with vegemite satchel’s that contain just enough vegemite so the scent annoys your wife but you need 3-4 of them to cover one square peasant inch of toast?

Feels like I went to the fridge, filled with excitment, and there it is…. A satchel.
