Gowers sign.
Here you can see me demonstrating what's called Gowers Sign, followed by footage of my son doing the same.
My son has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a rare, genetic, progressive muscle wasting disease, Duchenne is severe and fatal, there is no cure.
Gowers sign is a common early indicator of the disease. It is due to weakness in the muscles supporting the hips and thighs (proximal muscles).
Before his diagnosis of Duchenne, I had never seen anyone get up off the floor like my son did, it was one of the reasons (among many) that I went to his paediatrician looking for answers.
My son was diagnosed at 8 which is considered late, all the signs and symptoms were there from as young as 3, being Autistic as well, a lot of his symptoms were put down to Autism.
