Studio ESEM have had the great honour of bringing the Leichhardt Oval’s Caretaker’s Cottage to life as the Inner West Museum of Rugby League 2026 Activation.

So many stories, so much community pride has been shared through this program. Great team work.

Now for a big renovation of Leichhardt Oval and a time to pull all these stories together! We’ll be sharing some highlights of the program as we give thanks for all the dedicated work by the Council History Team and Vic Johnstone 🙏

Well done all.

200 plus stories and counting, shared through the program and through our Storybox Co new community Storywall, soft launched for this initiative.

Post includes a sneak peek of Balmain legend Wayne Peace filmed by legendary cinematographer Anthony Rose for the Museum’s Storywall.

Inspiration from Into the Ocean at the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay, Singapore. What will we all do to help keep the oceans safe from harm?

Always love being invited to share a response to an exhibit that can evolve over time.

Thoughts turning to this work, Superorganism. Listening to this beautiful soundscape quite often…

Last staged at Vivid Sydney down at Circular Quay, 2023, after touring 3 x regional towns after Brisbane’s Botanica launch in 2021. Quite a run!

Now thinking about re-staging it, in different ways, formats, contexts…

Ultimately this is a listening work, creating a shared canopy under the welcoming, illuminated branches of a host tree.

The 20min composition was originally staged as a dialogue between an agentic-female intelligence (sung by 🙏🙏) grieving for the ecocide she senses as her knowledge expands, as she listens to the slightly warped calls of the (always-mediated) birds and bull frogs and thunderstorms and flooded towns.

Also, built upon the warm cybernetic imaginary of Gregory Bateson, inspired by the vision of the Novacene painted by James Lovelock, towards the end of his long and eventful life. Ah yes, and Richard Powers…

Composed with - and staged with and the ESEM tech crew 🙏🌱

Even now, the question remains, how to create inviting canopies for knowledge sharing and listening, as the era of agentic-AI envelops us?

Even now, a soundscape to return to, to feel grounded in the now, as strange and scary as life sometimes feels.

Wonderful to have passionate future-makers together last week at the Australian Museum’s ‘Future Now’ exhibition.

Contributors to the Future Now Makers video portrait series came along to see their portraits and connect with other contributors. We all loved the chance to meet again 🙏👏

There is such incredible talent and passion in this group . If the future feels challenging, ‘the now’ of gathering together is all the more important!

Thanks so much for your leadership and dedication, and all our contributors and creative collaborators!

Sorry not everyone could attend, we hope to have more opportunities over coming months.

The exhibition runs until 13 April 2025.

Henry Simmons sorry not to have you there!

A hard day’s work but someone’s gotta do it!

Today we’re out filming with the .museum for the new 2025 program. Here we have the beginning of the Endeavour’s journey to Hobart for the upcoming Wooden Boat Festival. ⛵️⛵️

With the amazing uniting his two passions: photography and sailing!

Future Now is the place to be 😍

So wonderful to visit the Australian Museum’s Future Now exhibition, now on display in the main galleries. Absolutely worth a visit!

You do not want to miss seeing the dioramas of future habitats - amazing work by Sydney’s own Model Craft and art directed by the AM’s Jenny Newell and Louise Teteris.

The Studio ESEM team have loved working with the Climate Solutions Centre and Touring Exhibitions team on a series of video portraits of change makers across NSW and beyond.

The Future Now Makers portraits are now on display and will be touring as life size media plinths once the exhibition goes back on tour later in the year. More on these soon!

We’ve also created a new AI-driven artwork for this exhibition in partnership with Midjourney and the Climate team ;-)

Congrats to the Australian Museum and thanks for the opportunity to contribute to this brilliant project. 🙏🌳🦋
