Unfolding is the upcoming release by violinist/composer Jessica Moss .

The album carries traces of ordinary rooms and small details, balancing meditative ambience with swells of elegiac emotion.
One piece begins with the melodic overtones of a washing machine recorded while on tour, another with the discrete resonance of bells and chimes.

Recorded slowly over the past year, mostly at home, working closely with co-producer Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (Jerusalem In My Heart), and with early assistance from Ky Brooks , Jessica shaped the record through ruminative improvisations using violin, voice, pedals, field recordings and household items as percussion.
Everything was tracked through live looping and signal processing, continuing her approach to solo composition rooted in a real-time unfolding.

Ky Brooks will take part in the world premiere of Making Time, a new work by choreographer Sasha Kleinplatz presented by Danse-Cité at La Chapelle Scènes Contemporaines in Montreal, Sept 10–13, 2025.

The piece brings together dancers and percussionists in an exploration of rhythm, embodiment, and the physical dialogue between body and instrument.

Performances feature Ky Brooks alongside Winnie Ho, Laura Jeffery, Nien Tzu Weng, and Angélique Wilkie.

Dramaturgy by Émile Pineault, lighting by Paul Chambers, costumes by Nindy Banks, production by Michael Martini, and vocal consultation by Robin Love.

Unfolding is the new album from Montréal violinist and composer Jessica Moss.

It manifests her movement towards heightened fragility and deep listening, as her music has becoming increasingly durational and ceremonial, reflecting the commitment to holding space, conjuring entanglement, and connecting with intimate live audiences that has become her creative lodestar. With her solo work shaped by communing in precarious rooms, recent political and personal upheavals have only intensified these ritualistic, reparative musical processes.

Recorded mostly at home, Moss worked closely with co-producer Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (Jerusalem In My Heart). The album art features her photography. Tony Buck from The Necks .necks plays drums on one (long) song.

“This album was made slowly, over the last 12 months, the second full year of escalated genocide in Palestine, in direct response to our collective witnessing, our collective grief, as a portal to collective mourning, as a searchlight through our internal weather systems, seeking one another out in the dark.” – Jessica Moss

“until all our free” is the closing song on the album, a choral piece on which Moss sings all the parts (but which she looks forward to singing with others in concert.)

The September 6th North Carolina show will now take place at Pisgah Brewing Company in Black Mountain (venue change from Hatch Amphitheater in Asheville).

The band will also appear at Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh, NC on September 5th.

Plenty of news from the Do Make Say Think camp this year, and all of it worth marking on the calendar.

First up, the band return to their hometown stage for a rare Toronto show at The Concert Hall on Saturday 23 August 2025. Set inside the city’s historic Masonic Temple, it’s a space well-suited to the band’s expansive, wordless sound. Over more than two decades and seven albums, they’ve built an instrumental language that remains unmistakable, and their live performances are a rare chance to hear it in full flight. This fall, they’ll step outside their Toronto base for a special performance at POP Montreal 2025 , joining a lineup that includes Kee Avil, Myriam Gendron, U.S. Girls, Lankum, Circuit des Yeux, and many more artists across the city. More information and passes at popmontreal.com.

Meanwhile, their 2000 album Goodbye Enemy Airship, The Landlord Is Dead (still a landmark in their catalogue and in Canadian post-rock history) has been nominated for the Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize 2025.
