A man murdered by power. Now used as its symbol.

This is Saint John of Nepomuk.
He was tortured and thrown into the river by order of King Wenceslas IV—
because he refused to break a woman’s confession.

Now his statue stands in glory.
Crowned with stars. Holding a cross.
Tourists take photos. Nations take pride.

But look closer.

He is alone in stone.
Surrounded by circling birds.
The sky heavy with silence.

This isn’t peace.
This is how power rewrites resistance into obedience.

How many victims have been turned into monuments—
while their killers remain on coins and in schoolbooks?
