Welcome to the Transitions community!

Our page is a place for people who are dedicated to professional journalism and passionate about current events in the former Soviet countries of Europe and Central Asia. We hope you enjoy discussing important issues on this page. However, in order to ensure the safety of our followers, please follow our community guidelines. We will not tolerate:
-Hate speech and pejorative or discrimin

atory language involving one’s religion, gender, sexual orientation, race, nationality, ethnicity or any other factor pertaining to one’s identity.
-Spamming or the unsolicited dissemination of unrelated content meant for commercial advertising.
-Any forms of online bullying, including trolling or doxxing (the broadcasting of personal information for malicious intent).
-The dissemination or promotion of conspiracy theories or news that is considered to be false or misleading. By participating in our community, you are automatically agreeing to follow these guidelines and violating them will result in your comments being deleted and your profile possibly being blocked. That said, we do encourage our followers to openly express their opinions and debate with others on the political, social, cultural and economic topics we cover, and we look forward to discussing with you as well. Another GOA has come to an end, and we’re leaving inspired ✨

Over the past 15 days, 13 aspiring journalists from the United States, Germany, Greece, and the Czech Republic came together in Prague to learn by doing 🗞️. They pitched stories, interviewed sources, experimented with multimedia storytelling, visited local newsrooms, and received guidance from experienced foreign correspondents and editors.

During the programme, participants worked on real reporting projects from the first story pitch to the final piece. They visited the newsrooms of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Seznam.cz, explored multimedia storytelling, and received individual mentoring on story structure and editorial ethics while working under real reporting deadlines.

Thank you to everyone who made GOA 2026 such a special experience, especially our participants, instructors, partners, and everyone behind the scenes. It has been a pleasure to watch these journalists grow, and we can’t wait to see where their reporting takes them next.

Our financial manager, Blanka Dolezalova, is currently in Istanbul as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Staff Exchange, within the CARSI Project. She had the opportunity to attend a lecture on “Current International Issues” and "Forum Africa" at Marmara University. 💡 We’re proud to see our colleague actively engaging in international projects and bringing back fresh insights and inspiration to our team!

A pleasure to spend several days at NYU Prague with a diverse group of professionals from Polish organisations active in education, culture and international cooperation. Together, we explored how AI can support communication, content creation and everyday organisational workflows in a safe and practical way.

"What made this training especially inspiring for me was the diversity of the group. Participants brought together different generations, experiences and perspectives, creating a space where learning flowed both ways. While I shared practical approaches to building a safe and effective AI-powered work ecosystem, I also gained valuable insights from the participants themselves. Through our Level-Up project, we travel across cities and regions of the Czech Republic, meeting people and sharing practical knowledge on how not to get lost in the online world. From misinformation and artificial intelligence to scams, online safety, and more - our goal is to help people navigate the digital space with confidence 💻.

We’ve partnered with Alap Hírek to support their journalists in creating election coverage that truly serves their audience. 🗳️ We met in Budapest and discussed the importance of actively listening to what people care about and how to report on key issues through a solutions lens.

With Hungary’s 2026 parliamentary elections approaching in a highly polarized media environment, this kind of reporting matters more than ever.

Instead of focusing only on polls, tactics, and political clashes, the goal is to bring attention to policies, real challenges,
and possible ways forward.

And ALAP’s audience already showed great interest in the solutions-driven approach. The team received more than 350 responses to their call-to-action indicating what topics matter to them 🗞️.
