The British Royal Mail has today released a set of stamps commemorating the 200th anniversary of the start of services on the Stockton and Darlington Railway, the world’s first public railway. The set of six First Class stamps, named “steam locomotives” features pictures of notable British locomotives Locomotion, Rocket, City of Truro, Mallard, Duchess of Hamilton and Evening Star. In addition there is a miniature sheet of an additional four stamps depicting Locomotion over the last two centuries.
