Today in Guwahati, Sonapur, thousands of people held a sit-in protest against the plan to classify six non-tribal communities as Scheduled Tribes (ST). Representatives from 26 tribal organizations, representing a total of 14 indigenous ST communities, took part in the Protest. The protest coincides with the Assam government's initiative to include six OBC castes— Koch Rajbongshi, Tai-Ahom, Chutia, Moran, Motok, and Adivasi (Tea Tribes) in the ST category.
