HARMFUL TO***CO : Otjozondjupa Governor, John ||Khamuseb on Wednesday poses for a group photo with the community members attending the national public consultation on proposed amendments to the To***co Products Control Act No.1 of 2010 at the Otjozondjupa Regional Council chambers.

Governor ||Khamuseb wants laws aimed at protecting children, vulnerable pensioners and young adult people from the harmful to***co and ni****ne products increasingly available in his communities.

UNDER 20 SQUAD: National U20 Men’s Football Team head coach Lucky Shipanga has announced Namibia’s squad schedule for the COSAFA U20 Championship in Mozambique.

Namibia has been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Mozambique, Mauritius and Seychelles.

Namibia’s opening match will be against Mauritius on 18 September at the Estádio do Zimpeto in Maputo.

COOPERATION: Khomas Governor Sam Nujoma says a proposed memorandum of understanding between the Khomas Region and Jiangxi Provincial Government will provide a framework for sustained exchanges in youth development, university cooperation, and economic and trade ties.

Nujoma said this on Wednesday during the launch of the “Jiangxi Culture Goes to International Sister Cities (Namibia)” programme in Windhoek.

TRIAL: The trial of former gym instructor Tjizake Murangi (25) has been set for 27 October 2026.

He stands accused of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend at her rented flat in Windhoek, in 2024. Murangi will tender a plea on 09 October 2026, Judge Claudia Claasen has ordered. Murangi now has a new lawyer, Mbanga Siyomundji after his former lawyer Milton Engelbrecht withdrew last week.

HALT INAUGURATION: Kavango West Governor Verna Sinimbo, together with regional leadership have moved to halt the planned 18 September 2026 inauguration of the Nkurenkuru Vocational Training Centre, which was to be officiated by Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare on the directive of the Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah,saying the project remains incomplete and “half cooked” for trainees.

Speaking during an engagement between Namibia Training Authority and Kavango West leadership in Nkurenkuru on Tuesday she proposed that the region formally ask the Prime Minister’s office to halt the event until at least hostels first phase is finished.

JUST IN: UDF MP, Nico Somaeb and Swapo MP Paula Kooper have been approved by parliament today, to serve on the Security Commission of Namibia. 49 members voted for them, after all opposition members walked out except UDF.

The commission’s core function is to recommend candidates to the President for the Chief of the Defence Force, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Commissioner of Prisons (Correctional Services).

BREAKING NEWS: The National Assembly this afternoon approved the appointment of Gerson Sindano as ECN Chairperson.

The house had a quorum of 49 members who all cast their votes in favor. This was after all opposition members walked out, except UDF.

VISIT: Iran’s Ambassador to Namibia, Mohammad Beigi today paid a courtesy call on Peya Mushelenga, Chairperson of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on International Relations, Defence and Security.

The two discussed strengthening parliament-to-parliament ties, with the newly established Namibia-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group as a foundation.
They also agreed to explore deeper cooperation in oil & gas, agriculture, health, and vocational/skills training, building on historical bonds dating back to Namibia’s liberation struggle, parliament said today.
