KAJOYO ON BRINK OF CATASTROPHE: Residents Cry Out for Help as Neglected Premises Threatens Lives,Properties

By Concerned Residents

3rd May 2025

Homeowners and residents near the former 3G Ayodele School building, beside Salawu Mosque in Kajoyo Community, are experiencing a flood crisis due to a silt-choked waterway in front of the premises.

Temporary measures, including sandbags and cement blocks, have been deployed to mitigate escalation of the situation. However, the root cause persists: two neglected buildings, one abandoned since 2009, have become hazards.

(Urgent Call to Action)
Despite repeated pleas, the caretaker remains unresponsive. The affected area residents are pleading and urging Olorunda North LCDA to intervene and support the Kajoyo Landlords Association to ensure the property owners address this crisis before it leads to fatality and further destruction of nearby properties.

(Safety at Stake)
Collapsed walls, flooded soakaways, and structural risks threaten residents' lives. The situation demands immediate attention to prevent potential loss of life and property.

OSUN LG POLL:POLICE SEEKS SUSPENSION, WARNS OF HIGH SECURITY THREATS

22nd February 2025

The Nigeria Police Force has advised the Osun State Government to suspend tomorrow’s local government election, warning of a likelihood of violence and security threats.

Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Friday night said credible intelligent gathered from various groups shows that various groups including political elements and other interest parties are mobilising to insitgate unrest, disrupt public peace and undermine the democratic order.

Adejobi said, “The Nigeria Police Force has received credible intelligence indicating a high likelihood of violence and significant security threats should the planned Local Government elections proceed in Osun State.

“These reports gathered from joint intelligence gathering reveal that various groups, including political elements and other interest parties, are mobilizing to instigate unrest, disrupt public peace, and undermine the democratic order.

“Given this imminent threat to security, the NPF strongly advises the Osun State Government to suspend the planned elections forthwith in the interest of public safety and national stability.

“The Force has assessed the current security landscape and determined that proceeding with the elections under these volatile conditions could escalate into widespread unrest, endangering lives and property.

REINSTATED OSOGBO LOCAL GOVT CHAIR, SAHEED ONIBONOKUTA RESUMES, PLEDGES TRANSPARENCY

20th February 2025

The Executive Chairman of Osogbo Local Government, Hon. Saheed M Onibonokuta has promised to be transparent and provide quality leadership to the people.

Speaking to journalists after resuming office on Thursday, Hon. Onibonokuta directed staff of the council area to return to their duty posts with immediate effect.

He stated that consultations are ongoing with all Divisional Police Officers and other security agencies in Osogbo Local Government to ensure the security of lives and property.

The Chairman also pledged an open-door policy, reiterating his commitment to the development of the council area.

His words, "I am pleased to report to our people that we have fully resumed work today, Thursday, February 2025. I am holding a meeting with the heads of security agencies in Osogbo LGA immediately as we swing into action. I have also instructed my councilors to embark on a needs assessment of their various wards to account for the areas where we will need to intervene urgently.

"I am aware that staff of the local government are still afraid to resume work because of the political situation. I am thereby using this medium to direct them to resume work IMMEDIATELY. We have a lot to do in the next few weeks so all of us must report to our duty posts.

"Let me also assure our people that we will utilize all channels of feedback to get back to our people so that they will be aware of our policies and programs.

"I also want to charge electoral officers in the local government to avoid being used to perpetuate illegality on Saturday. The judgment of the Court of Appeal is clear enough to have returned us to office. Therefore, any other action against the dictate of the judgment is gross illegality.

"We are committed to good governance and we pledge to serve our people within all of the resources available to us.

"I cannot but thank the leadership of our party starting from His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola CON, the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, APC National Secretary Senator (Dr)Ajibola Basiru, APC State Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, Engr. AbdulRahman Olalekan Badmus, Chairman Elders Council Osogbo Alhaji Raheem Adegboye Adebayo (Fefe), our leaders, elders, and all members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) throughout the state, especially in Osogbo Local Government. Together, let's build the Osogbo of our dreams. Osogbo a gbe wa, o," Hon. Saheed M Onibonokuta stressed further.

PRESS RELEASE

OSUN LG SAGA: POLICE CONDEMNS VIOLENCE, VOWS TO DEAL WITH PERPETRATORS.

As IGP Orders Deployment of Additional Tactical Squads to Restore Normalcy in Osun

In response to the ongoing violence in Osun State, the Nigeria Police Force has condemned, in strong terms, the incidents that have disrupted peace and safety in the state, and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. These violent actions had disrupted the peace, leading to the destruction of property, and the unfortunate loss of innocent lives.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., has taken decisive action by ordering the deployment of additional tactical squads to Osun State to bolster security and restore law and order.

The Police recognizes that violence undermines the democratic process and threatens the wellbeing of the citizens, and hereby affirms its commitment to identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators of these acts and caused them to face the full weight of the law.

The IGP issues a stern warning to those who threaten the peace and stability in Osun State, as the Force will not tolerate any act of lawlessness, hooliganism and anarchy in the state. The perpetrators of these criminal acts will be fished out and be caused to face the consequences of their unwarranted ill-fated acts. Citizens must remain calm as normalcy is being restored. Osun indigenes, leaders, and stakeholders are hereby urged to shun violence and go about their legitimate businesses. The judiciary remains the ultimate arbiter of all electoral disputes and political actors must respect and abide by its rulings, upholding the rule of law and democratic principles. Citizens are advised to go about their lawful business.

The Force reiterates its commitment to clamping down on any violent actors who bent on creating brouhaha and breakdown of law and order in any part of the country. The situation in Osun will be closely monitored, and measures will be enforced to ensure a safe environment for all residents.

THERE IS NO JUDGEMENT THAT STOP US (OSIEC) FROM CONDUCTING LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION

Gentlemen of the Press,
I have called for this press briefing on a development in the process of Osun State local government election. Today the Court of Appeal struck out the suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to challenge the conduct of Osun State local government election in 2022.

The reasoning of the Appellate Court was that the suit was filed before the Notice of election was issued by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC). It must be noted that it was during the pendency of the said suit before the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo in FHC/OS/CS/94/2022 that the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) Law 2022 was enacted and the notice of election was issued.

The Claimant in the case amended the originating summons to bring the suit in line with the developments which occurred during the pendency of the suit. The Federal High Court delivered its judgment in the suit on the 25th November, 2022, nullifying the election and sacking the purported elected officials.

The affected political party All Progressive Congress (APC) and their purported candidates for the election appealed the judgment, and today the Court of Appeal delivered a judgment in the appeal striking out the suit for being speculative. No more to that at the Court of Appeal.

However, by another judgment of the Federal High Court in suit No.: APP .v. INEC & ORS, the Federal High Court in a judgment delivered on 30th November, 2022 nullified the election and sacked the purported elected officials. The All Progressive Congress (APC), Allied People Movement (APM) and 1 other person appealed the judgment but later abandoned the appeal and same was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on the 13th January, 2025.

To this effect, there is no order returning any purported elected officials of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to office as there is no Order of any Court reinstating them to office. In particular, there is no Order of any Court stopping the conduct of the election already scheduled by the Commission to hold on 22nd February, 2025.

In specific terms, the thirty (30) Local Government Areas in Osun State remain vacant till date as there is a substituting decision of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal against the All Progressive Congress (APC) and its purported candidates.

Towards this end, I urge the public to remain calm and all political parties to go about their peaceful campaigns as we countdown to the D-day, that is 22nd February, 2025. All is set for the election to hold.

Thanks.

Hashim Akintunde Abioye, Esq.,
Chairman,
Osun State Independent Electoral Commission
