Day #5 Crowned Hair

I remember the days I started to truly take pride in my hair. From about middle school to high school, I’ve went thru multiple hairstyles such as, Waves, high top fade, Re- twist, hair dying and now Locs. As Black Young man I’ve learned it’s like to express myself no matter the slander and stereotypes that comes in the form of racial profiling. This society demonizes and emasculate black men In such a way to disable our freedom of expression and make us conform to European subjugation. I for one would like to Braek that narrative!

"The Copper Heads"

This work explores the history of Enslaved Africans and Indigenous People during the 17th Century, with a particular focus on the Black Seminoles—a community that was forged in resilience, cultural fusion, and a fight for survival. Through these sculptures I seek to honor their history of how they navigated oppression and forged a union to dismantle European Colonialism.
