September 5 is the anniversary of the Munich massacre, a terrorist attack on the Israeli Olympic team at the 1972 Summer Games in Munich.
A hostage crisis unfolded live in front of the world, leading to the murder of 11 Israeli Olympic team members and a German police officer.
It was only 44 years later, at the 2016 Olympic Games, that the International Olympic Committee held an official ceremony honoring the victims.
More than 50 years later, we remember the victims of the Munich massacre and their families that were left devastated.
