🇺🇸 Today, we still remember 9/11. 🇺🇸
On this day, 24 years ago, our nation was forever changed. We honor the lives lost, the heroes who rose, and the unity that followed.
Let us never forget the strength, sacrifice, and resilience that define us as Americans.

🪶 This week's poetry contest winner! 👀 ⬇️ Grandma called me Ladybug by Retha Mears

I remember Grandma, A beacon in my life.
She came here in a covered wagon and became a farmer’s wife.
Born in 1898, she told stories of the “good old days”,
Of confrontations with Indians, and other pioneering ways.

In the evenings we’d sit on the porch to feel the breeze.
She taught us kids old songs as we shelled and snapped peas.
She would sew, crochet or tat as she’d rock.
I’d help churn butter in the old crock.

I never saw Grandma wear a pair of slacks.
She made me dresses out of pretty flour sacks.
She made us bonnets to wear in the sun,
And she’d work in the field until the day was done.

On a wood stove she’d cook, can and bake.
My favorite was the Raisin Pie she’d make.
The boys would help draw water and carry the wood,
Nobody could cook like Grandma could.

As kids, we’d climb trees in the orchard out by the barn,
We ate plums and peaches ‘til juice ran down our arm.
We knew what would happen if we ever got caught.
Grandma would use the razor strap on the whole lot!

My favorite memories of Grandma, I still carry today
How she made me feel special in her own special way.
I remember how soft her cheek was when she gave me a hug.
But mostly I remember Grandma called me “Ladybug”.
