It all began with a leap. From humble beginnings in Po***ck, LA, George A. Foster, Sr. transformed his vision into reality by founding Guaranty, as a local insurance company, in 1926, driven by faith and a commitment to serve his community. This legacy continued with his son, George A. Foster, Jr., who acquired Channel 9 and boldly launched Guaranty into broadcasting in 1964, reshaping our journey for the next 50 years. Today, as we engage in meaningful initiatives through our charitable arm, the Guaranty Foundation, we honor our past while looking boldly to the future. The next leap of faith is still ahead of us, and we’re ready to create the next 100 years with courage and belief.

As the flagship radio station of LSU, we became the first radio station group in America to broadcast all football, men’s basketball, baseball, women’s basketball and softball on FM. Excuse us, but Michelle has reached *icon* status now as she joins past winners Carol Burnett, Kathy Bates, Hoda Kotb, Keke Palmer, Christina Applegate, Ava DuVernay, Melissa McCarthy, Taylor Swift, Barbara Walters just to name a few.

Who remembers Buckskin Bill? (Comment below if you do!)

During Guaranty’s ownership of WAFB-TV, Buckskin Bill not only captivated kids in his storyland cabin but also inspired the Baton Rouge community with his famous sign-off: “Baton Rouge needs a Zoo!” He even ran a penny drive that raised over 600,000 pennies to purchase the zoo’s first two elephants, Penny and Penny Two!

Thanks to Buckskin Bill's dedication, the Baton Rouge Zoo opened its doors in 1970. You're never fully dressed until you’ve put on a smile, and Buckskin Bill certainly brought smiles to us all! BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo Guaranty Media
