Happy Retirement K-9 Lieutenant Tommi 💙🎉
Retirement of K9 Lieutenant Tommi

On October 5, 2025, it is with great honor that the York County Sheriff's Office announced the retirement of K9 Lieutenant Tommi Tobani, after 8 years of service. He was born on October 16, 2015 in Czechoslovakia. Lt. Tommi joined the Sheriff's Office in May of 2017. He completed the K9 Academy and was successfully certified through NAPCH as an explosive detection K9 in 2017. Since that time, Lt. Tommi has been deployed over 400 times on calls for service such as explosive detection searches, tracking missing children, elderly persons and fugitives, and article searches to locate evidence of a crime. He has made hundreds of visits for demonstrations at schools throughout York County to educate children how K9's are trained and how they work. Lt. Tommi has been a key element in keeping the citizens of York County safe and will greatly be missed. We wish Lt. Tommi Tobani the best in his retirement and know that "dad", Sgt Lopez will treat you very well to some special treats and vanilla ice cream! Enjoy your downtime and continue howling at those sirens when they go by. You deserve every minute of relaxation and all the love you get at home!

My piece, Enhancing Detection, dives into the importance of maintenance training—one of the most requested classes I teach at conferences and for agencies across the country. In it, I share why consistent training matters and how using multiple approaches can help handlers and their dogs reach their goals more effectively.
