Not sure that I agree with the article's title here--the problem was not that the company's *output* was itself a copyright violation, but that the *input* of millions of downloaded books is. And it is that input which is going to get them into trouble.
A federal judge in San Francisco ruled late on Monday that Anthropic's use of books without permission to train its artificial intelligence system was legal under U.S. copyright law.
