OWENSBORO- Paul William Hayes, 84, of Owensboro died Saturday, September 5, 2026 at his residence in Owensboro. Mr. Hayes was born in Muhlenberg County on April 6, 1942. He was formerly self-employed with Hayes Heating and Cooling and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Hayes is preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy Hayes; parents, Paul and Lucille Hayes.

Survivors include his children, Beau (Jenny) Hayes, Paul Hayes, Sharon Hayes, Brian Hayes, Jacob Moreland, Jessice Moreland; grandchildren, Beau Hayes, Bruce Hayes, Brandon Hayes, Christina Hayes; siblings, Betty Amos, Sheila (Randy Vandiver) Hayes; companion, Christine Gantt; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 12:00 PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Dr. Chase Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 10, 2026 beginning at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. LADY MUSTANGS SWEEP OWENSBORO IN STRAIGHT SETS

GREENVILLE, Ky. — Muhlenberg County used a balanced attack, strong serving and steady defense to sweep Owensboro 3-0 on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, at Muhlenberg County High School.

The Lady Mustangs won the opening set 25-19 before holding off Owensboro in a pair of closer sets, 25-23 and 25-22, to complete the straight-set victory.

Muhlenberg County finished the night with 35 kills, 30 assists, 11 service aces and 47 digs, with contributions coming throughout the lineup.

Reese Brassell directed the offense with 27 assists while also recording 11 digs. She contributed at the net as well with one solo block and three block assists.

Kennah Willis finished with seven kills and posted a .300 hitting percentage, the best mark among Muhlenberg County players with multiple kills. Willis also added six digs and two service aces.

Chelsea Coleman contributed five kills while hitting .286 and added a service ace. Alayah Lovan finished with two kills and two block assists, while Bella McCarraher added a kill, two digs and a block assist.

Hadlee Milligan made an impact from the service line and in the back row, finishing with three service aces and nine digs while playing in all three sets. Her three aces were the second-highest total on the team.

Morgan Higgins added three digs and a service ace.

Kenlee Pate led the Lady Mustangs offensively with 20 kills and also recorded 15 digs and four service aces. During the match, Pate reached the 1,000-kill milestone for her varsity career, adding a special moment to the home victory.

Muhlenberg County’s serving helped keep Owensboro under pressure, while its defense gave the Lady Mustangs opportunities to stay in control during the tighter second and third sets.

After taking the first set by six points, Muhlenberg County had to make key plays late in each of the final two sets. The Lady Mustangs responded both times, closing out the match without dropping a set.

The victory showcased a complete team effort, with Muhlenberg County getting production from its hitters, setter, servers and back-row defenders throughout the night.

Sharon G. Staton

Ft. Myers, FL - Sharon G. Staton, formerly of Muhlenberg. Passed away on August 20th, 2026.

She was born in Evansville, IN on November 6th, 1947. She retired from the Ritz-Carlton, Naples, FL opening the first “in house" florist there. She had formerly owned, and operated Sharon's House of Flowers in Greenville. She was of the Christian faith. She was proceeded in death by her parents Carl L. and Margaret Abshire; her grandparents; sister Virgina (Sam) Bowman; brothers Carl Richard, and David Anthony "Tony" Abshire; and nephew Richard Adam Kipling.

She is survived by her son and daughter- in-law Darren (Nolynn) Yonts; grandson Tyler Yonts; great-grandson Selvin and his mom Nancy Yonts; sisters Linda Abshire, and Donna Abshire Shepherd; brother John Michael (Peggy) Abshire; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A special thank you to her loving caregivers, The Campos- Quintanilla family. A celebration of life will be held at Holly Js conference room Saturday, September 12th from 4-6pm. All family, friends, and the Muhlenberg Central Class of 1965 are invited.
