So me and some co workers ate at Olive Garden. I asked for my Pasta e Fagioli soup to go. This is what the waitress brought me, Fag wrote on the bag. Tho my associates had a good laugh. Tomorrow (Sunday) from 10am til 3pm my son and I will have close to 200 of pieces of original art for sale at Main Street Garden Park. Prices start at $10 - and you can buy an original painting, on canvas, as large as 40"x40" for under $150. ALL 100% original, no reproductions.

There has not been an art festival in 2020 thanks to Covid, and I miss the interaction with the art lovers (and haters, it's all good).... plus HomeGrown Fest in 2018 was my first ever public event so I have a fondness for Main Street Garden Park. At least come by and take a look. HappyHolidays.

Doris Ann Herman Hicks 100 years old 11/16/2020
We will not be able to have the Birthday party at the American Legion for Doris Ann due to the virus and her young age : ). Instead we would appreciate any friends, family, Veterans, anyone whom loves God and America write her a letter. We are going to try and get 100 letters, she is kind of old school so really loves personal mail and she would enjoy hearing from you. For instance about your life or what you Love about the USA maybe one of God’s miracles in your life; maybe an experience when you were in the Military if you served?
Doris Hicks 406 – 28th Street Columbus Nebraska 68601
She went into the Army Air Corps in WW II right after Pearl Harbor to take the place of her brother, whom could not join as was a Rail Road Engineer. She was a tower radio operator. She was stationed in many places during the war including Las Vegas. She was born on a farm outside Winsor NE. where her husband Jerry Hicks, Korean War Veteran is buried and she grew up in Omaha, graduated from Omaha Tech. I her son at 58; she says has not grown up yet : ) (we have a lot of fun) she is still beating me at scrabble.
Doris describes growing up in the 20’s where her family loved and looked out for each other, everyone in the USA chipped in for the USA during the war as wanted to keep freedom for all we are so blessed for the many sacrifices especially those that gave all (died) for our freedom. Over time she has resided in Omaha, Alaska, New York, Washington D.C., Arlington VA and now Columbus NE. She had many jobs; her career was as a commercial artist.
She enjoys reading her Bible, exercising, teaching her Grand Daughter; this was huge during the lock down for us as in the past she taught special education, the GED program and Sunday school for many years. She loves writing family & friends, exercising & caring for her cats and dog. She has lost so many people over the years; it depresses her at times, she used to love dancing and playing cards at the senior citizen center and her Bible study before the virus. Her favorite shows are the Guardian, Monk, the Jefferson’s, Longmire, Merlin, Doc Martin & positive TV news. She enjoys her independence and the Veterans Hospital has been amazing coming to our home from Grand Island for checkups and medical needs.
She sometimes wonders why she lived so long however feels blessed to enjoy every day & prays for all of us. Her granddaughter Pearl at 8 still sits on her lap and reads to her and she gives Pear spelling and math tests and sneaks her candy.
She is closer to God then anyone have met, she would really appreciate and respect hearing from you. Thanks you so much for your time and consideration in this damn busy world we live in today : ) Paul Hicks [email protected]
We will be out on the street for Halloween please join us in you finest outfit.

"The only reason those pets are dying is because they happen to be homeless temporarily!"
Tawny Hammond, Best Friends Animal Society

"I think The Whole No Kill Movement Has Created An Enormous Divide In Animal Welfare."
Matt Pepper, CEO, Michigan Humane Society

“I Think non-collaboration is a huge issue in this field. It is frustrating because it's hard to bring people together. When I first got involved with Austin Pets Alive I really wasn't expecting that lack of collaboration.”
Dr. Ellen Jefferson, Austin Pets Alive!

2,000 healthy dogs are killed every day in American Shelters.

In 2011 activist filmmaker Tom McPhee began a nine year examination of America's homeless dog population that results in a million healthy dogs being killed every year in American shelters

In he meets Terri Sumpter, a pi**ed off dog rescuer who has energized citizens by protesting the treatment of animals at Detroit Animal Control and then is attacked by the old and new animal rescue establishment.

In he meets Tawny Hammond, an influential member of the Best Friends Animal Society team as she is having their support and resources refused by Houston SPCA after Hurricane Harvey resulting in a logistical catastrophe.

In , Texas he hears local civic leader, national pet advocate, and Austin Pets Alive!'s Executive Director Dr. Ellen Jefferson explain why Austin is so different from other cities by refusing to kill domestic animals simply because they are homeless.

It is the wild west in the world of domestic animal rescue in the United States, where the rule of law is what you can get away with. Along the way two thousand healthy dogs are killed in shelters every day simply because they are homeless, as the rescue community fights with themselves.
