Day 3 of sharing some of my favorite finds! 👟 I am absolutely obsessed with these Nikes. Not only are they super comfy, but they’re the perfect way to represent my sisterhood, Alpha Kappa Alpha. I loved the pink with green accents so much, I had to grab the inverse pair too! They add such a fun pop of color to any outfit, whether I'm dressing up or keeping it casual in jeans. 🌸💚

I am so excited about my Favorite Thing #2! This new sweater from the National Black Growers Council is a gift from my father-in-law, who attended the NBGC Annual Meeting. We are partnering on a really meaningful venture: starting a 2-acre farm focused on bringing fresh food and wellness resources to people.
What an amazing way to kick off this project. I'll be wearing this sweater with so much pride!

đź’– My 10 Favorite Things: Day 1 - The Priceless Quilt đź’–
I'm doing a countdown of my 10 favorite things, and for Day 1, I have to share this incredible quilt made by my mom! It’s about 25 years old and is truly my most cherished item.
What makes it so special?
It's entirely hand-stitched by my amazing mother.
Some of the fabric patches (like the floral and polka-dot pieces you see) are actually scraps from dresses she sewed for me when I was a little girl! Talk about a priceless piece of history and a core memory woven right in.
It may be a little worn and tattered around the edges, but that just proves how loved it is. It's more than just a blanket; it’s a lifetime of love and memories.
Do you have an heirloom item that tells a family story? I'd love to hear about it!

Loved this conversation on Byers & Co. We talked about enjoying the holidays, reflecting on the year, planning ahead for 2026, and a few fun things in between. Always appreciate the chance to connect and share ideas. Thanks for having me. 🎧

Christmas is still my favorite, but it took work to get back to joy. If the holidays feel heavy for you, know that there is joy on the other side of the work. You get to define what "happy" means for you now. đź’š

Session 6 of the Women’s 2025 Leadership Mastery Series is right around the corner on December 18. This month we’re talking about something that shapes everything we do: how we spend our time.
When we understand the value of our time, we get more intentional about where it goes and who gets it. If you’re ready to step into the new year with more clarity and purpose, I’d love for you to join me.
Bring your favorite morning drink and meet me on Zoom as we continue exploring the connection between women and leadership.

We had some time to talk about finding your leadership voice, and the message is clear: Above all else, know that your voice matters.
Your perspective, your lived experiences, your journey, and your work experience, it all matters. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
If you are still showing up, if you are still here, there is inherent value in your style, your swag, and your flow.
Keep sharing your voice. The world needs what you have to say. 💚

Are you communicating in a way that truly reflects your leadership strengths? The key to leading effectively often lies in your authentic communication style.
In our last Women’s Leadership session we explored four primary leadership communication styles. Which one resonates most with you?
1. The Advocate: Focused on fairness, equity, and speaking up for others. They lead with a strong sense of justice.
2. The Strategist: Thinks at a high level (the "30,000-foot view"). Very intentional about direction and long-term planning.
3. The Inspirer: Leads with vision, encouragement, and motivation. They are the "yes, let's go get it" communicators!
4. The Grounder: Calm, steady, and keeps everything on pace. They provide stability and reassurance to the team.

The fall of 2016 I made a conscious decision to walk away from an amazing job working with a staff that I absolutely loved! I literally went to work with family everyday – which was surreal. There was something telling me that there was more in store, what I had wasn’t it. There was more good for me, more new for me, more challenges for me, more time with family for me, more of everything I valued. But, the catch was … I had to let go of all that I had at that time and not look back. So, I did.
It is now spring 2018, about a year-and-a-half since walking away and I am so thankful that I did. My husband and I not only left our jobs, but we also moved our family nine hours north. Yep, two elementary aged school kids moved in the middle of the academic year ~ who does that? We do; People who are crazy enough to follow that still quite voice and go after that thing with every in us.
Here is what happened. Life happened!
There were no job offers, however there were plenty of rejections! That still quiet voice continued to say … create your own. You are no longer a representative of any organization. You are allowed to be – be adventurous, be creative, be home with you kids, be a friend who returns calls, be an entrepreneur with everything that it inside of you. You are allowed to live with intention and show your kids how to do the same.
Within a year-and-a-half I have established, with my business partner, a growing enterprise, J Morris Enterprises with four companies; re-launched a non-profit organization, MDH Educational Foundation, made investments and commitments to my community, began work on a documentary entitled “the education of a race,” and am building an educational consulting portfolio to continue to build on 15 years of passion in k-12 and higher education.
There is nothing better than becoming more familiar with my personal and professional intention and living the life that I have been given.
There are days that I get it wrong – completely wrong - and other days that could go significantly better. Then, there are those days that I am shocked and humbled by a request that is absolutely amazing, and I think … this is good! Real Good! Through it all and at the end of any day the question is the same – did I give it everything that I had?
There is immeasurable value to choosing to live an intentional life – if you haven’t already, try it.
Be true to and authentically you! You will love it, I do!
