The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is ready for an unforgettable Independence Day celebration. Fireworks will light up the sky at dusk on July 4th from Ramp Point in the Dam West Recreation Area.

Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center

Dam West Overlook

Portions of the road across the Dam

🚫 Reminder: No outside fireworks are allowed on government property. Violators will be cited.

On June 19, 1865, enslaved people in Texas finally learned they were free — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Lincoln. Texas, the westernmost Confederate state, was the last to enforce the proclamation.

This powerful day has been honored in the Black community for over 160 years — and now, it’s recognized nationwide as a federal holiday.
