A Blast From the Past! As WJMU celebrates Giving Tuesday, we're happy to have been sent this throwback to 1971. That's the station's first Business Manager, John Tibbott Jr. ('72), overseeing the install of the original WJMU broadcast antenna on the roof of the Language Arts Building (now Shilling Hall). Happy World College Radio Day!

Today is a celebration of all things College Radio and everything you already love about the low end of the FM dial! If you’re a fan of Outkast, R.E.M., The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Misfits, The B-52s, The Replacements or any independent music or media, you already know and love College Radio. Student-run radio stations and other college media outlets bring you a non-commercial perspective on the popular culture and local news that you crave.

As WJMU celebrates all things College Radio Day we are beyond thrilled to be BACK ON AIR! After a six-month hiatus as we recovered from storm damage we flipped the transmitter back on yesterday afternoon. We’re putting out about 200 watts as we warm up “old sparky”, but we’ll be pushing the signal little by little throughout the day. If you aren’t yet in range, remember you can always get the WJMU stream at millikin.edu/WJMU.

This is what a bent antenna bay looks like. The GOOD NEWS is that we have a great crew of local and area engineers (as well as our awesome MU facilities crew) putting together logistics to get 89.5 WJMU The Quad BACK ON THE AIR!!! More details to come in the coming weeks, but we’re optimistic that the Decatur airwaves will be rocking again! …hopefully sometime before Labor Day!

Though 89.5 WJMU The Quad is still working to repair our Broadcast Antenna, we are celebrating Record Store Day and Vinylthon ‘23 in spirit with our friends at Independent Record Stores and College Radio Stations across the world!

It’s a bit difficult to see through the branches, but the WJMU Broadcast Antenna tower took the worst of the wind in Tuesday’s nasty weather. WJMU will be back on the air ASAP.

The trophies got stuck in the Midwest because of the snow, but WJMU alum Cole Daniel (‘22) WON the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System production award for Best Use of Sound Effects at the IBS Golden Microphone Awards in NYC!

Current WJMU Exec Board students were on hand to collect the certificate and the Trophy gets mailed to WJMU on Monday!
