Shooting indoors with little to no natural light can be both a gift and a curse 🎥

On one hand, you’re not fighting the sun moving every 10 minutes or clouds constantly changing your exposure. You get full control of the scene. Every highlight, every shadow, every bit of contrast is intentional.

But that also means everything is on you. If the lighting isn’t right, the shot won’t feel right.

For this interview setup, we built the entire look from scratch. We were able to shape the light to create a soft, natural feel while keeping the subject separated from the background.

Great lighting doesn’t just help you see the subject. It sets the mood of the entire image.

The difference between a flat shot and a cinematic one often comes down to how you shape the light. 🎬

Early call, big shot 🌅🎥

We’ve got a jib set on top of this massive slide structure, yes, I tested the slide myself, and the plan is pure motion. A kid drops in, we ride the slide from their perspective, then lift up and reveal the zoo and the city as the sun sits low behind it all.

Backlit, smooth camera movement, real energy. One of those shots where timing, light, and perspective line up just right. Can’t wait to see this one come together.

Not killing reflections entirely... just shaping them. We’ve got a character in place to add depth, pulling back the sky exposure, and keeping things clean in case a reflection sneaks through. Frame stalks on the 12x mean no hard edges, no giveaway borders... just a controlled, natural look.

Setting up a quick but meaningful moment.

We’re lining up a shot at the car where mom finishes her last line, direct to camera, then transitions straight into buckling her toddler into the seat. The action syncs perfectly with the voiceover. We’ve got soft fill above, a touch of light behind the camera, and everything’s ready to go. Picture’s up. Time to move.
