🔥🔥🔥🔥Four wildfires have been reported on the Superior National Forest, three within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW).

The Camp Fire, is located approximately 8 miles north/north east of the Cloquet Line by Ely. Approximate fire size is 1-2 acres with creeping ground fire activity. This fire in outside the BWCAW.

The following fires are located within the BWCAW.

The Bear Trap Fire, located by the Bear Trap River, north of Sunday Lake. It is currently .10 acre, as a single tree strike burning.

The Thumb Fire. It is approximately .10 acre, as a single tree strike burning. It is located by Thumb Lake and Contentment Lake.

The Section 3 Pond Fire is approximately one acre. It is located on Section Pond, just south of the Canadian Border.

Firefighting resources are assessing suppression strategy options.

Updates will be provided as more information is available. Public are asked to stay out of the area for their safety and firefighter safety.

Drones are NOT allowed near the fire area and are illegal in federally designated wilderness areas.

With the 4th of July festivities keeping everyone busy, there won’t be a live Polka Show this Saturday.
You’ll find Polka Ron, Trader Craig, and Cole rolling through in Ely and Terri & Todd celebrating with everyone in the Tower-Soudan Parade!

Meet Gilly… the GM’s grandpup and today’s honorary station dog! 🐾🎙️

This handsome rescue hails from Texas, and he’s definitely enjoying the reprieve from that southern heat. To him, an Ely summer feels pretty cool 😎

Today, Gilly made himself right at home, lounging like he owned the place, taking a turn behind the microphone, and, of course, squeezing in a well-deserved station nap. We’d say he’s already mastered the radio life!

Rescue dogs have a special way of stealing hearts, and Gilly is no exception. We’re so grateful he found his forever family, and we loved having him brighten our day here at the station. ❤️

A wonderful client stopped by and surprised me with cookies… and little did she know, they’re my absolute favorite cookies in town! 🍪

I rarely eat cookies but when I do, it’s the cookies from Sheridan Street Deli. They never disappoint! If you haven’t run and tell em Terri I sent you!

Thank you for making my day with such a thoughtful surprise. It’s little acts of kindness like this that remind me how lucky I am to work in such an incredible community. ❤️

*** 4th of July Parade ***

The City of Ely 4th of July Parade will be this Saturday, July 4th at 1:00pm. The parade starts at 4th Ave E. and Harvey St. and follows Harvey Street to 2nd Ave East to Sheridan St, ending at 8th Ave and Harvey St (Whiteside Park).

There will be signs posted along the parade route advising there will be no parking allowed the morning of the 4th of July until the barricades are removed after the parade. Vehicles parked along the parade route or parade staging area in violation will be towed.
