Sun Valley Magazine

Sun Valley Magazine Celebrating the best of Sun Valley life for over 44 years! Everyone at this magazine lives what we write about, or knows someone who does.

Sun Valley Magazine is the result of a commitment to celebrating life and its many facets here in the Wood River Valley in Central Idaho as paradise, we are not immune to the challenges that affect the outside world, nor, are we critical of the lifestyles of those “less fortunates” who don’t call this Valley home. But everyone needs reminding sometimes of the reasons they live anywhere and it is o

ur position at this magazine that this is our raison de’etres. It gets us up everyday and out asking “Tell me something I don’t know . . .” asking the movers and shakers as well as the workers and families who let us in so we can fill you in on the stories that are the fabric of our life here. Our goal is to break down the barriers, open eyes, occasionally bring tears, but to always leave a mark on your memory. Our hope is that if you live here too, or just love it here like we do, then some aspect of our magazine resonates. We don’t claim to be all things to all people, but we are a magazine of the people and written for the people of the Wood River Valley and beyond. It’s a responsibility we take seriously. And it’s one we work hard to perpetuate through all of our publications be it the summer, fall, or winter edition of the coffee table-worthy Sun Valley Magazine, or our fine dining feature magazine, Taste of Sun Valley. We’ve created Golf and Hockey magazines for those sports fans and also tackle projects in our custom publishing division that don’t conflict with our mission and high standards, but which allow us to keep bringing you the quality photography and writing that keeps readers coming back. Although a locally-based magazine, we don’t shy from regional stories—in fact our publications are sold nationally in more than 400 locations nationwide, notably the Boise Airport and Salt Lake International Airport, Borders, Barnes & Noble, Hastings, Waldenbooks and regional Albertson’s markets, as well as Atkinsons' Markets and local bookstores and gift shops. Thank you for sharing your world so we can share it with others.

Your Saturday Game Plan:
✨ The Slow Morning: Head downtown, and claim a sunny spot on a local cafe patio. There is nothing quite like a warm mug of coffee under a perfectly clear Idaho sky while watching the morning shadows retreat up the mountains.
✨ Pavement Miles: The Wood River Trail is wide open and in prime condition today. Whether you’re walking the dog, rolling on skateboards, or taking a leisurely cruise on your e-bike, it’s the perfect corridor to soak up the sunshine.
✨ A Quick Trail Reminder: 🥾🛑 Those brilliant green hillsides are incredibly inviting, but the upper singletrack is still fragile and drying out. Stick to the paved paths or the completely dry, lower dirt loops today. If you run into unexpected mud, do the local thing: turn around to protect our valley's natural infrastructure!

Our Editorial Countdown:
Behind the scenes at the magazine, our team is putting the final, meticulous polishes on our upcoming Summer 2026 Issue. We are counting down the days until we can share the full layout with you—including our stunning features, our amazing departments, and our summer calendar. While you wait, pick up Taste and learn more how to grow edible plants and get the Scoop on all things new in the Valley.

If you noticed our feed was a little quiet this past week... you caught us. We officially pulled a classic 5B move: we plugged in the "Out of Office" auto-responder, threw on our hiking boots, and went completely off the grid to soak up the final, quiet days of slack.

Between meeting some local horses on a perfectly clear bluebird morning, watching the mountains hit their peak velvet-green glow, and catching up on our own summer reading lists, we completely recharged our creative batteries.

We promise not to disappear again until at least July. 😉 What did we miss while we were gone?

Bluebirds, Backcountry, and Bridle Paths 💙🐴✨ If you stepped outside today, you know the valley is putting on an absolute clinic in spring perfection. We’ve got crisp mountain air, a deep "bluebird" sky without a single cloud in sight, and hillsides so vibrantly green they almost look painted. The high country peaks are still holding onto a dramatic cap of winter white, creating that stunning, sharp contrast against the fresh spring valley that our local photographers live for.

We went for a beautiful shot and ended up meeting a friend so here is to spending this gorgeous bluebird day with the best of mates.

Today, We Honor and Remember 🇺🇸✨ We began our morning in quiet gratitude, honoring the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their legacy is the very freedom we enjoy today—to roam these mountains, to gather with community, and to call this Aalley home.

Memorial Day is a Valley threshold. It means slack is over, and the energy is shifting to summer. How are you honoring the day? Share your photos with us below so we can overload our stories for our community!

The Valley is suspended in that perfect, fleeting window of time. The sun is blazing, the hills are an impossible shade of emerald, and the summer rush hasn't quite touched down yet.

Translation? It is the absolute best time to play hooky for an hour and pretend you're a tourist in your own town.

Here is your official Thursday recipe for a perfect May afternoon in the 5B:

✨ The Pavement Promenade: Grab your skateboard, your cruiser bike, or your rollerblades and hit the Wood River Trail. The pavement is warm and the mountain air is crisp.
✨ The Dinner & A Movie Flex: Want the ultimate local date night? Hit up Ketchum Grill tonight for their legendary "Dinner & A Movie" special. Spend $25 on their delicious spring menu and score a free ticket to Magic Lantern Cinemas. 🎬🍔
✨ The Thirst Quencher: It’s warm enough for patio seating, which means a post-work margarita or crisp local draft beer is practically mandatory. Snag a sunny spot in Ketchum, Hailey or Bellevue.

The Sneak Peek: 🎻📖
While you're enjoying the calm before the summer storm, go ahead and start plotting your Pavilion lawn strategies. The Taste Sun Valley issue is on stands, the Sun Valley Music Festival schedule is locked in, and our SVM Summer 2026 Issue is being designed behind the scenes.

What's your ultimate "playing hooky" spot in the valley when the sun hits like this? Drop your secrets below (we won't tell your boss)! 👇

While we are currently savoring the quiet mountain spring, our eyes are already fixed on one of the most beloved traditions in the West. Tickets are officially on sale for the Trailing of the Sheep Festival annual fundraiser: Starry Starry Night—Under the Western Sky! Mark your calendars for Thursday, June 18th at The Argyros Performing Arts Center in Ketchum. This isn't just any fundraiser; it’s the heartbeat that keeps our absolute favorite fall traditions alive.

Why We’re Grabbing Our Tickets:
✨ Preserving the Heritage: Proceeds directly support the production of the milestone 30th annual Trailing of the Sheep Festival (October 7–11, 2026). Your ticket helps ensure community treasures like the legendary Big Sheep Parade down Main Street and the Folklife Fair remain completely free for everyone to enjoy.
✨ Local Melodies: Get ready for an evening of food, drinks, a lively auction, and music by local favorites The Kim Stocking Band Trio, bringing their iconic blend of country, rock, and folk to the stage.
✨ Community Stewardship: Supporting this event means protecting the deep history, culture, and stories of sheepherding that shaped Idaho and the American West.

Pro Tip: This event sells out every single year. Don't sit on the fence—head to the link (trailingofthesheep.org) to lock in your seats or donate in lieu of attending if you're out of town!

Who is ready for a night under the Western sky? Tag your festival crew below! 👇
