Since Spotify has been such a hot topic on my page 🙄 here’s a simplified look at how royalties flow from Spotify.

One of the biggest mistakes I see as a Royalty Administrator is when songwriters and producers assume one Spotify stream equals one royalty payment. It doesn’t. Approximately 80% is allocated to the Sound Recording (the Master side) while only 20% is allocated to Publishing.

As you can see above ☝🏾 one stream can generate multiple royalty streams, each collected and paid by different organizations!
