How do YOU define success as a creator?

A few weeks ago, someone asked this key question at our recent local podcast event. Such a great question and one I wish more creators would ask themselves.
Too often, we let metrics--downloads and follower counts dictate our idea of what success looks like. But success as a content creator is personal and different for everybody. That being said, I do believe it's important to understand why you’re creating and what you hope to achieve.

I dropped a new solo episode on Creator Factor where I dig into this question about success and how to rethink success as a creator. 🎤

Whether it’s building a business, expanding your network, or pursuing passion projects, defining success on your own terms is KEY to staying motivated and focused on what matters most.

For over 10 years, I have found a special place for hosting in-person events. I have organized events for indie bands, digital marketers, entrepreneurs, and creators.

I can’t tell you how much joy this brings me. Nothing beats the feeling of creating a space for like-minded individuals to be seen, supported, and heard. In 2018, I hosted over 100 meet-ups for our local Houston creator community. I started Pod Houston in 2018 and Vid Houston in 2020.

I believe in the creator community because I believe in the importance of empowering creators to think and move differently as creatives. Our superpowers often are overlooked and undervalued by corporations and businesses looking to hire creative services.

I want creators to not “JUST” start a podcast or publish content on Youtube channels. I want to help creators build BRANDS and BUSINESSES through their content creation and community building.

Creators are the new business owners, entrepreneurs and change-makers of the world and I will do my part to contribute to our growth...through in-person events and online community-building efforts.

These are exciting times for us.

Today is International Podcast Day!

I want to give a huge shoutout to all my fellow podcasters, service providers, agency owners, community leaders, and anyone who is contributing to the growth of our medium.

Podcasting isn't just growing in the US, it's growing all over the world-- India, Brazil, Singapore, Italy, Japan, Indonesia, and Latin America!

Podcasters taking it to the stage!

A couple of weeks ago, the Acquired podcast hosted a live podcast interview event at the Chase Center in San Francisco. The arena was packed (6,000 people) to see the hosts interview the founder of Meta, Mark Zuckenberg.

Podcasting isn’t just about pushing content aimlessly—it's about cultivating a dedicated community that’s willing to show up and engage, not just through an RSS Feed or virtually, but in real life too! It’s a reminder that if you’re consistently delivering valuable, compelling content, people will not only listen—they’ll want to connect in person.

‼️ Live Events and more LIVE EVENTS!

Podcast monetization isn’t just limited to ads, sponsorships, subscriptions, etc. Live experiences can be an income generator and more importantly, create an even deeper impact on your community. From ticket sales to partnerships with venues and sponsors, live events can open up entirely new revenue streams for all podcasters.

‼️ Humanizing Your Content

Hosting live sessions, Q&A sessions, or panel discussions offers a more human experience that your audience will value more. Plus, a live podcast show can serve as premium content for die-hard fans, offering them something different and exclusive.

This article inspired me because I truly believe podcasting has the potential to go far beyond your microphone. As an event organizer and someone who is advocating for more in-person events for content creators.

I say..take your show to the stage, create these timeless moments, and explore creative opportunities outside the typical podcasting playbook. It’s not just about being heard—it’s about being seen now!
