You don’t want to miss the amazing talent and energy that will be showcasing on the mic!
Our poetry slams give poets an opportunity to test the fortitude of their work against the best poets in the nation. Through the process of trying to attain the highest scores, slams incentivize poets to edit and enhance their writing and to put more emphasis on the presentation of their work to better resonate with audiences and grow as artists.
A poetry slam is a competitive poetry showdown where poets’ original works get judged by 5 random members of the audience.
Our slams are open sign ups and the only consistent event in Houston where poets can win cash prizes as well as points that go toward their overall ranking in our poetry slam league. Every time poets compete in our slams they receive:
- 2 pts for slamming
- 4 pts for third place
- 6 pts for second place
- 8 pts for winning
The top point accumulating poets throughout the slam season will have the opportunity to qualify and compete for bigger cash prizes and the title of Write About Now Individual Poetry Slam Champion.
It’s not too late to get on or climb up the board. Check out our current rankings here:

And the food is just as good as the poetry. Rudyard’s has been ranked a top 100 restaurant by The Houston Chronicle.
Thanks for making room for poetry in your life.
Even if you can’t make it out, we appreciate the word of mouth.
