After a busy November, Paradise Township Lions Club will host a soup and sandwich sale on Dec. 20 in the Community Building in Paradise Park. Ham and cheese sandwiches and quarts of chicken corn soup will be distributed through takeout and drive-through services.

"We make gallons and gallons of soup," said club member Heather Valudes. "The night before we get together and do all of the prep for the soup. We chop up chicken, hard-boiled eggs and onions and cook it on Saturday morning. The crew starts early on Saturday, so it's super fresh. Our chicken corn soup recipe is really good."

On Dec. 13 and 14, St. Mary of Providence Center will be hosting three holiday activities: tours of the Potts mansion; a Jingle and Mingle Christmas Celebration; and Cookies with Santa.

"Every year, we do a different theme; last year was Victorian. This year it is 'Joy Around the World,' which really highlights different people, cultures and heritages," explained Sister Brenda McHugh, center director. "Stemming from Potts himself, throughout the mansion you will see his heritage proudly displayed. The rose represents his English heritage; the thistle, his Scottish heritage; and the fleur-de-lis, his French heritage. Designers and decorators will highlight this theme and add other themes as well."

Tickets can be reserved online. To see individual event details at https://townlively.com/st-mary-of-providence-center-to-host-holiday-events/

What began as a simple way to brighten the holidays has grown into a long-standing tradition thanks to Helen Bechtold and the contributions of community members. On Dec. 25, meal packages will be given out to all adults aged 55 and older for pickup, with Bechtold currently collecting food, monetary donations and household items for the packages.

"With everything costing more, we really depend on donations," Bechtold said. "The need keeps increasing."

Meal reservations are required by Dec. 17. To learn more about the meal giveaway and/or how to get involved, visit https://townlively.com/sharing-christmas-joy-with-seniors-2/

The Lititz Area Community Choir, Warwick Alumni and Friends will put you in the holiday spirit with the seasonal concert titled "The Majesty Glory of Christmas" on Dec. 21 inside Warwick High School's Performance Arts Center (Warwick School District - Lititz, Pennsylvania). The free concert will accept goodwill offerings, with the hourlong performance featuring well-known holiday classics.

"The audience can expect hearing recognizable tunes," said Kline-Smith, a retired, longtime music educator in the Warwick School District. "They'll hear some very fine singing. We work hard to get to what we consider choral excellence. There will be a few props and backgrounds that will make it more of a performance or an experience. It's going through all parts of the holiday season..."

Lititz United Methodist Church will host its Simply Christmas event on Dec. 14, featuring singing of Christmas carols, gifts, food, games and more. The free event began in 2012 as a way to recapture the wonder of the holiday season.

"As a church family, we want to share the love of Christ with our neighbors," said Patti Bergman, the coordinator of Lititz United Methodist Church's Simply Christmas. "It's an opportunity to slow down and experience the greatest reason for the season, which is Jesus. It's also a chance for us to spend time with our neighbors, which is also a great gift."

Christkindlmarkt, hosted by Lancaster Liederkranz on Dec. 14, will allow attendees to take a trip to Europe without leaving Lancaster County, featuring attractions such as more than 30 crafts and gift vendors, traditional German food, kids' activities, musical performances from various Liederkranz groups and more. The market is cash only, with an ATM located on-site.

"We hold traditional events like this to share, celebrate and support the preservation of German culture," event chair Elise Fasnacht said, noting that the Liederkranz has been a vibrant part of Lancaster's German-American heritage for almost 150 years. "This event is particularly special to me as it was the brainchild of my late mother, Monica. There is a Christmas tree at the pavilion dedicated in her memory."

The story of Catalyst Ministries is the story of God at work. The nonprofit's founders, Patrick and Gina McNally, credit their faith with laying the foundation for their vision to bring a skills-based learning center to Elizabethtown, with their story initially beginning in 2003 with the launch of organization in New York City.

"Through a long and very interesting, 'only-God' series of events, we moved to Elizabethtown in 2019, and following that we sold our New York camp property," Patrick shared. "As we prayed about what God was leading us to next, we had a new vision on how we could have a life-changing impact on children, youth and families in the E-town area."
