SD Team Robusta I am a disabled person working with my successor dog, Robusta. He came from an accredited program in Central PA.

I try to advocate for service animals and the disabled community whenever possible.

In November 2025, Team Foster made it possible for Robusta and I to be matched. Team Foster paid the adoption fees to Susquehanna Service Dogs so that I wouldn't have to deplete my savings to pay for Robusta.

They left a gift for us at graduation. I was not there long enough to receive it, but SSD made sure to get it to us anyway. Thank you, Team Foster for all that you do for veterans! Your value is unparalleled!

Almost forgot to share!

Yesterday, Robusta and I had to go to the VAMC for an appointment. Afterwards, I went to the little Patriot Store on site for some chips. The manager was there. Commented on how well Robusta behaved and how focused he was on me.

The manager asked me if Robusta was allowed a pup cup. Since I have had him, we had never been offered a pup cup and I wasn't sure how to respond. I quickly decided he deserved that pup cup. The manager walked me over to the in house Starbucks and asked the workers to make a pup cup for this "incredible service dog." Side note: a pup cup is usually a small cup with whipped cream in it.

Robusta and I had a magical photoshoot with Alayna from Bird's Eye Visuals. We took photos featuring the use of my major disability aids which are my walker, a cane and of course, my service dog. All while looking and feeling beautiful! I was a sweaty, hot mess, but Robusta and I had a blast. He kept us laughing almost the whole time.

Alayna captured exactly what I wanted from this photoshoot. Many of us struggle to accept our disabled bodies. I spent the latter half of my 20s, angry, frustrated and ashamed that I became disabled after something that happened to me that was outside of my control. It permanently damaged me physically.

My goal for this photoshoot was to show that you can still look and feel beautiful even if you're disabled or chronically ill. It just may look a little different than what you are used to. Even if you use a cane or a wheelchair. Even if you use a walker. Even if you wear a leg brace or prosthetic. Even if you wear ostomy bag. Whether you have seizures, PTSD, TBI, Cancer, etc. YOU are beautiful. Just as you are. RIGHT NOW! No change necessary!

Acknowledge the things you may not like. Grieve for the parts of you that are now missing or have changed in some way. Process your trauma. You deserve to be happy. You deserve to feel beautiful. Just as you are! You deserve love and all the good things this life may offer.

We need to talk about something very important. Here in Pennsylvania they are trying to push a new House Bill in regards to Service Animals. I was genuinely excited for this bill! I wanted to see repercussions for people who bring untrained pets into public spaces and claim they are service animals. I wanted to be less worried about being accosted by untrained animals when I am at the VAMC for care.

HOWEVER, this bill negatively impacts and punishes disabled people who are just trying to live their lives. We will pick this Bill apart in future posts.

Our dogs are complete opposites. One loves to sun bathe until his fur gets warm while the other hides in the shade. Moxxi, our brindle dog, is a mix of several breeds including Chow chow and Husky. She will sit in the snow for hours if we let her lol the sun? Not so much. Robusta loves to sun bathe.

Another mini training session while we waited for the MRI of my brain today. Here we were working on Robusta's retrieve. He tends to get excited and drops the object I asked for before I can grab it with my hand. That's okay, because we just reset and try again. After Robusta completes his retrieve of my hat, I use the "settle" cue to get him to turn around and slide his huge badonka-donk under the chair. This way he is mostly out the way of others who need to walk by. We always try to be mindful not to block the way for someone else. At the end of the video you hear me say "Robusta, really?" That's because he waited until I couldn't see his face and he removed his gentle head lead. That stinker...
