Tanith hit “the scene” in early 2018 with the release of their Citadel EP and unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that the band is co-fronted by one of Satan’s …
Factoid - recorded by my son Beau Pool
We didn't blow the horn too loudly when we released "Made In The Mitten". We were pleased with how it came out, got good feedback from folks who picked up a copy and kinda figured...mission accomplished on this one.
Recently, to our surprise and delight, a number of radio stations have started to play the thing and that's exciting! We've decided to take a stab at encouraging some more radio action. We'll keep ya'll posted on who/when/where but wanted to give an early heads up and THANK listeners and the beautiful DJ's and PD's who support Roots Music & Mulebone on the airwaves!!! Yesterday at the shop, hashing it out family style.
Tonight Lorraine Leckie and Her Demons play Mercury Lounge at 8pm and we'll be celebrating our hard working and talented (former) band mate Paul Triff. Pauly died 2 years ago and in what turned out to be a mysterious turn of fate, we actually recorded what was his last performance. We loved up on the recording in the studio and it's being released tonight as Lorraine Leckie & Her Demons; Live At The Mercury Lounge.
Pauly was a real pet lover and all proceeds from the sale of this recording will be contributed to a fund established in his name called Paulies Pets. Please join us!
Hey, we’ve started an Instagram account by telling our story of the studios development in pictures; from first look at the space thru provisional setup, demolition, studio construction and into earliest sessions. If you’re interested and have an Instagram account, check out Excello recording.
We completed mixing the latest from Reverend Freakchild and the very next day the 1/2” masters are up with Scott Hull at Masterdisk for mastering! Rev had many guests over the albums 11 cuts and I snapped these 2 pics from a track featuring G Love and a fantastic gospel singer from Colorado named Hazel Miller Hazel Miller Band. The record was done by hand; all analog ATR Magnetics. I. jokingly call the blue tape in the pic “automation tape” and mark it for different levels and moves during the song. The mix itself becomes a performance and we endeavor to do it until it’s right.

Just spent 2 days in the studio with these fine humans. This is a new group called Tanith who just created 2 tracks for their debut 7" release. We recorded to 2" tape and mixed to 1/2" tape. We just turned the computer on at the end in order to create digital files for the band to listen to. Think Deep Purple meets Buffalo Springfield; real cool stuff.
Little bit of analog all lined up, clean and standing ready!
Hmmm - the mix is up and the strings are off. Can't decide if the photo is about ADD or potential? Welp, the track got mixed and the acoustic guitar sounded much better.
Heya - let's make a record!
Booking September at the new shop!
Guitar beef in our new custom, reclaimed lumber shelf! This vibe feels right and I can't wait for these 4 amps to be connected via switcher to 4 different speaker cabinets and live 24/7. Just plug up and roll!
A Neve 1063 Quad bus and a rack of API 312's are all cleaned up and ready to party!
This song is a manifestation of one of those cool moments where you can and you do. No matter whom you support most would admit that a critical byproduct of this election cycle has been polarization and societal stress.
In this song, Lorraine gives voice to what many feel; sadness and regret. The tune started in a rehearsal with Charlie fiddling with a bass line which became the verse, and then me more or less coming up with the chorus and then Keith tying things together with transitions and specifically dropping the drums out in the chorus (genius).
Lorraine then wrote the lyrics overnight, we recorded it and Scott Hull mastered over the weekend.
America Weeping by Lorraine Leckie and her Demons, released 16 January 2017 Leonard Cohen is now Sitting up on a star Light up a rainbow of diamonds Across the Universe Out in the nick of time Pour me a glass of moonshine I'm glad he never heard the sound Of America Weeping America sleeping America…
1. The 827 is recommissioned and working great! 2. A little preview of material in production from Reverend Freakchild and we never switched a computer on.
It's now easier to call Excello Recording.
This afternoon at the shop!
We are open in our new location at 231 Norman Ave!
Baking tape this morning at the future home of Excello. These 3 reels contain final mixes of an EP project that I completed 20 years ago and, for one reason or another, never put out. Reel 1 is dated 1-26-96 and the release party will be on 1-26-16. Freaky. I'm headed up to Peekskill tomorrow morning to master with Scott Hull.
