From the start of producing Unmasked last summer, our team's number one goal was to spark honest conversation and progress for a better future in our community. As co-director Andrew Baer puts it, "this film was never about filmmaking or finding a cure-all solution for su***de prevention." Unmasked was just our way of entering the conversation and being a part of the community.

Looking back, we are all confident at DocX Films that our community, students, friends, and family members have helped us fulfill this goal in more ways than one. We are humbled by the support we have received and the knowledge that our work has helped generate more discussion.

While winning an award may seem significant, the fact that our film and messages of hope have been spread throughout the community are greater and more satisfying than any award we could have received. People in Palo Alto and beyond it's borders as well are having meaningful conversations and maintaining a mindset that we hope only gets brighter as we continue to deal with questions.

Thank you to everyone who helped inspire us to create this film. The fact that we received thousands of votes over the past month is a testament to how inspiring, supportive, and loving our community is. For this, we are truly grateful.

We at DocX Films made Unmasked because we were frustrated and saddened by the clusters of teen su***des in our town. This film is an honest effort to bring the topic of su***de out of darkness so that we can open new paths of conversation and work together to find solutions to this tragedy. We hope that people will be inspired and given a message of hope, because we truly believe that if our community all puts our minds together, we can find a solution. Please feel free to call or use any of the resources on our site. If you have questions or feedback, please contact us at [email protected].">[email protected].

Today, DocX Films Team members Andrew Baer, Christian Leong, Yui Sasajima, Josh Yuen, Lydia Sun, Tanner Kerrins and Leslie Garcia met up in Los Angeles and began preparing for tomorrow's festival.

Christian and his mother arrived on Thursday evening and has toured the UCLA film school and Occidental College over the past two days. Leslie also arrived on Thursday via plane and got the chance to meet up with her relatives in Sherman Oaks.

Tanner and Lydia are here with both of their parents. Lydia visited the Claremont colleges this afternoon, while Andrew, Josh, and Yui visited Biola University.

The team met up for dinner (see photo) and began exploring the city shortly afterward. Congratulations DocX on winning "Audience Choice" Award. What's even better is that 44k people viewed your documentary and it's bringing awareness and hope to this issue.

Congratulations on being selected!
Sept. 20, 2015 Dear Christian L. and Andrew L., This is an important film. Please put me on your mailing list, as I'm disappointed I wasn't able to see it this weekend. I would like to help spread the word about further screenings. My name is Marc Vincenti, and for 15 years I taught English at Gunn. I was in the classroom every day with my students as they lost six of their friends and classmates in 2009-10. It had a lasting impact on me, and on my students. I've been running a grassroots campaign in the hope of making high school life less of a struggle, and there are people I know in the community, so if there's anything I can do to help you secure further screenings for your film, don't hesitate to let me know, and I will do my best to help. I'm putting up a link to your film on the S2K8 website, and if there's a way for people to click directly onto the trailer, I'll do that too. I'll see if my "tech dude" can handle it! :-) Thank you for all your work during the summer, and everything you're doing now. I know how hard students work, and my hat is off to you for adding this to your already-busy lives. Sincerely, Marc Vincenti Gunn English Dept. (1995-2010) Coordinator, Save the 2,008

Compliments to the Palo Alto teens of DocX Films on 'Unmasked,' their film exploring su***de in their schools. Their message of hope received a standing ovation at tonight's premiere.
After the first screening quickly sold out, the student-filmmakers behind mental health documentary "Unmasked" have scheduled a second screening for Sunday, Sept. 19. Tickets are limited and registration required. DocX Films
