With Labor Day sales abound I was looking at a feed order. Started down the rabbit hole of poultry nutrition.
All Flock vs chicken layer?
With multiple species it's impossible to have a truly complete feed so supplements would be necessary to optimize either the chickens or the large birds (turkeys, ducks, peacocks). The kids handling the routine feeding with me working plus school, the simplest feed program possible is the goal.
-Chickens would need oyster shell/ egg shells fed back to them for egg layer calcium.
-Large birds would need extra protein regularly at minimum.
Poor nutrition = poor fertility. I earn more money for the feed bill (let's be honest, the goal is to break even with livestock), on the large bird chicks but the chickens are far more prolific.
Calcium is easier to supplement than the protein on the large birds but the All Flock is more expensive by the bag.

Nutrena has always been great quality but 40 pound bags and expensive.
I have never heard of the Kent Home feed before but I can get it delivered and the price isn't horrible.
Dumor vs Purina is pretty standard pricing and Dumor is cheap but definitely get what you pay for.
What's your opinion on price vs nutrition vs quality?
