“On August 31, 2025, my brother, Efrain Hidalgo, tragically lost his life after being shot by Phoenix police at Hermoso Park in South Phoenix. He was only 37 years old.

Our family is heartbroken, devastated, and searching for answers. Body cameras and witness statements will be reviewed, and we are committed to pursuing justice for my brother Efrain Hidalgo.

What many people don’t know is that Efrain was going to the park that night to check on and care for an elderly man he often looked after - someone vulnerable in the community who had been robbed multiple times. Efrain had a big heart and always tried to help those who couldn’t defend themselves.

During this painful time, our family is also faced with overwhelming financial challenges. We are asking for help to cover:
• Funeral and memorial expenses
• Basic family needs during this time of loss
• Legal efforts to pursue accountability and justice

Our communities came together during last night’s PXU School Board meeting to reject more school policing following the Maryvale High incident.

Students, parents, and community members told PXU: invest in healing resources, not punishment. Police create violence; they don’t prevent it.

Our youth deserve schools that cultivate healing and learning, not criminalization.
